| Blue Valentine, a very compelling and understated film. Excellent performances from Gosling and Williams.
The Resident was average and easily missable.
Animal Kingdom, cracking film! Full of intensity, menace and brutality. Loved it. Couple of RL loolalikes too T Briscoe and G Bird.

| Quote ="McClennan"I love it. [iThe Thin Red Line[/i is the least interesting of his films for me and [iTree Of Life[/i, I will go so far to say is his best but I thought [iThe New World[/i was brilliant and his best before this. Both are quite abstract and although it's a bit more straightforward, [iTree Of Life[/i (i.e. the clue is in the title), I loved it and found it quite emotional at times. The cinematography was incredible and that first hour was just mesmerising and had me thinking, finally a film that makes [i2001[/i look dated.'"
I saw it on saturday. Clearly I'm not enough of an abstract, deep thinker, because I thought it was pretentious, self-indulgent crap.

I thought it was great, and the pacing of it good too. I've read the book, and resisted the remptation to read it again before watching the film. It let me go into the film not wanting to match the book up to what was going on on screen.
The unexpected bonus yesterday was the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. Not a huge amount of footage, but the most striking was a concerned looking Batman as Bane approaches...

Took the kids to see it yesterday. They enjoyed it, I guess that's the main thing. How adults could I will never know.
Only comment I would make was that I thought it was far too violent - not required. The films have gotten more violent (and I don't mean "dark" - you can make something dark without making it violent). I haven't read the books but I'm thinking Rowling originally wrote for children but changed over the years as it was obvious adults were reading the books more than kids.
Laugh out loud moment was the ending - Harry and Ron really don't age well. Fat, Ginger and Forty (I know all about that).

Where on earth has that rage come from bud? If you don't like it you don't like it. I was the only one who really loved it out of my circle of friends but that's probably because it appeals a lot more to my nature than it does their's.

Ha no I wasn't having a go. Just didn't 'get' it at all. What was with the dinosaur sequences? Just baffled me. I did like the bits set in Texas though, clearly resonant of Mallick's childhood. I'm a bit surprised it hasn't met a more polarised response to be honest.

I suppose if you're doing a philosophical piece about the nature of existence, creation and evolution you could say that you can't miss out dinosaurs unless, say, you're writing a bible.

| Due Date - not as funny as some have said but some cracking one-liners and asides in it, very enjoyable.
Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 1 - loved it, was darker but then again so is the book. Going to see the last one at the cinema on Tuesday night.
Dinner For Schmucks - I loved this film, Steve Carell just being an absolute moron and made me laugh almost from start to finish. It even made me NOT want to punch David Walliams too!

| The Fighter - Good film with excellent boxing scenes. But watching a film about "Irish" Mickey Ward and it not covering his 3 fights with Arturo "Thunder" Gatti, which are widely considered to be some of the greatest fights in the history of boxing, kind of left me underwhelmed.

I originally thought that too, but to be fair, the film is more focussed on his brothers crack addiction rather than MW himself.
I enjoyed it.

| Unknown with Liam Neeson.
OK action film, but nowhere near as good as [iTaken[/i. The twist was a bit predictable too.

If it's NOT as good as Taken then it must be absolutely horrendous. I thought Taken was absolutely pitiful as are most Liam Neeson-led films (IMO of course!)

Agree with that, Has Liam Neeson actually ever done a good film though, I know people like Schindlers List, but i'm not one of them.
Agree that The Fighter is a cracking film, I didn't know much about the charachter so I didn't know the makers had missed out some of his more famous fights.
Watched 'The Lovely Bones' at the weekend, poor, watered down adaptation of a great book. Good acting but poorly executed by Peter Jackson.

I was pleasantly surprised by Dinner For Schmucks, I found myself laughing all the way through.
Saw Cars 2 and enjoyed it. Not sure it had the magic of the first film but it often takes more than one viewing with a kids film. Some good scenes and all the favourite characters were there.
Hereafter was complete garbage. Expected more from Eastwood but it was really naff.

Really, really disappointed by Hereafter. Didn't know anything about it before watching and thoroughly enjoyed the first hour or so - a different sort of film, different plot, several stories slowly intertwining...but then it just deflated and died a very flat death. And then ended.

| Went to see Horrible Bosses and Captain America this week, horrible bosses I thought was great. Very funny and probably one I'll buy on DVD, Captain America was also quite good considering it's not really my kind of film.
I'm only hearing good things about Bridesmaids although it looks too chick-flick-y for me.
