The nature of blogs is that they are the opinions of the person who writes them and anyone who reads them needs to keep this in mind, some are written by professionals and have varying elements of research, some are just pure opinion and based on nothing other than prejudice, whatever flavour that prejudice may be.

Unfortunately we are tending to find that newspapers are abdicating any responsibility to check facts and opting to simply quote "sources" and because most people still assume (wrongly) that newspapers only report facts and do not try to sway opinion at all, then we are where we are.

If I have a minute I'll find a link to the original blog and then you can compare to the newspaper article but it seems that in this case none of the professionals involved have researched the subject at all, the blogger did a little digging and adopted what he found to suit his personal view, as is his right.

Or not as juicy as woman and husband with decent salaries and have just bought a car that would have covered the said deposit, given government help to buy a property using a scheme designed to help people who couldn't afford the deposit.

Add the fact that it looks like they either bought some time ago or was staged just for the PR stunt and it is more Oi, Tories!

Husband? She's referred to as Ms. Did she buy the car or is it a company car? Just what is her salary? Has this evil harridan, by using the scheme scuppered the chances of a poor, unfortunate family realising their dream?

There is no mention of her salary because the original source of the story did not interview her, remember this was an amateur blogger giving his opinion piece, all he did was dig around in Facebook record and find that she was a director of the company and that she'd posted all about her new car.

Thats fair enough for a blogger and as a reader you have to decipher this and understand that this is all subjective - the newspaper has then simply lifted the story and reproduced it almost verbatim - its at this point where you might expect a professional national media outlet to ask a few questions, maybe ring her, possibly send a reporter - but they don't appear to have.

'Ms' is neither a synonym for 'Miss' or 'Mrs'. Then entire point of it is that it does not, in any way, reveal relationship status.

Salary is an irrelevance as far as Help to Buy is concerned

This news story sums up whats wrong with Britain today.

A man works hard to make something of himself and people say him and his family should be evicted from their house.

I suppose there's some 15 year old girl with 6 kids thats spent all her life on benefits thats more worthy of the house then?

Wasn't aware of that but if the subject of the Cameron PR stunt is a director of an estate agents and is married to another estate agent, it's gonna be difficult to imagine their combined income at less than £60k (unless that is net, net, net)

It's probably the amount they pa PAYE on, not what they actually take home.

Still an inappropriate use of the funds IMO.

These funds have helped my daughter get on the property ladder so for me that is tangible evidence of it usefulness.

Considering the article, I'd think comments from random posters have more credibility.

If you follow the link I helpfully provided, you will see it also shows the average pay, along with both the high and low ranges. You realise sales people, particularly Estate Agents, seem to have a tendency to "up" their job titles?

Likewise, or will be very soon, its one thing that they have got right and if it results in a surge in re-selling prices of houses then that is unfortunate but we've spent the last five years looking at the alternative and the alternative doesn't work.
