| Some personal favourites already mentioned, such as Fairytale of New York, Christmas Wrapping and the wonderful I Believe in Father Christmas.
I also enjoy Wombling Merry Christmas and Step into Christmas.
Great annual income for the writers of some of these songs!

I don't mind that one, actually. It seems to be quite widely derided, but I think it's ok. I like Chris Rea's 'Driving Home For Christmas' as well - particularly when I am actually driving home for Christmas.

I don't recall it being derided, on what basis? It's a great tune, sung well, so i presume it can only be the preposterous story of the song? It's not meant to be true, but I reckon deriders would find far more suitable targets in the original version of the story

A lot of people I know don't like it and I've heard a couple of radio DJs mocking it. My claims are no more scientific than that.

Hence, I'm fine with a little light nonsense from Slade, Wizzard or even Dean Martin ... but want to vomit when I hear Johnny Bleedin' Mathis wheedling out "When a child is born". It's even worse if you actually listen to the words.
Bowie and Crosby, please, no, take it away.
Poor old Bing, not knowing if he's on this earth or Fuller's, wondering who this plonker is that's singing with him.
"Fairytale of New York" ... well, I could never understand how a decent singer like Kirsty McColl could tie up with such a bunch of =#FF0000talentless deadbeats as The Pogues. (From which you'll gather that I don't like that one either).
Cliff Richard should put his mistletoe and wine in a blender and pipe the result up his septuagenarian @rse.

You have now lost all credibility when it comes to music matters.
You may not like them but to call them talentless

OK, I admit that "talentless deadbeats" was a bit strong.
Let's go with "of disappointingly low apparent talent despite input from respected artists who did well away from The Pogues".

Apart from that amazing, unique voice, Shane McGowan has written songs like Fairytale of New York, Sally Maclennane, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, and Dirty Old Town. To me this makes him an outstanding musical talent.

Oddly, the only Darkness song I can listen to without wanting to smash the radio in.....Maybe because their awful, camp, poodle perm rock actually fits snugly with the Xmas spirit that is around at this time of year.

Good call, that.
It's an odd one though as although it's Christmas related it only sneaked into the chart just before Christmas in 1983 and went on to reach number one in January 1984.

Indeed, Kirsty's dad wrote that one.

Not actually a Christmas tune, but as been adopted as such over the years (Think its the use of the bells, representing the horse drawn carriage or sled involved in the film it was written for) .....Fantastic piece, mind you....

| Not strictly a Christmas song, but in charts at the time, the Frog Chorus still makes me smile as my (then) toddler son used to stand and gaze at the telly and mimic it.
