They'll do a (literal) couple of minutes on the treadmill, wander about a bit, get tangled up in cable machine, sit down for a while, go on the cross trainer for a couple of more minutes, sit on a bench but not do anything....and make that last an hour or so.
They usually smell bad too.'"
i ve recently been sent to my local sports centre gym by my doctor as ive had bad back pain for over 3 months. the staff are brilliant and have set up a training programme for me that i follow to get rid of my back problem.im not on benefits though.i have had to pay for the 3 months "course" but its heavily subsidised(probably still cheaper than other treatments) its certainly worked for me and even after only 5 or 6 sessions the pain has decreased a hell of a lot.Because of my medical condition i have to be careful with the exercises and thats where the staff come in as the programme they have set up for me takes into account my condition and medication.maybe the people you see walking around not doing too much are restricted due to another medical condition and have to take things slowly!!!!!!!!
maybe in future they will be able to speed up/do more exercises etc.i m sure you ll be happier then!!

| Meanwhile in other obese related news, York City Tory Councillor Chris Steward thinks he has the answer to poor people who grow fat while scrounging on the dole at everyone elses expense - ban food banks which only exist because lazy poor people can't budget properly and prefer to spend all of their benefits on booze and fags. [urlhttp://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/01/03/tory-councillor-chris-steward-food-banks-criticised_n_2402631.html?1357231646&utm_hp_ref=uk[/url
It seems like every local council has to have a quota of idiots with a mouth and just sufficient brain cells to operate it without stopping to think what it is they are saying, congratulations to Chris Steward for getting the "idiot with no thought process" award in York.

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Hope Molly is back to enjoying longer walks on those beautiful Cornish beaches.
I've had a lot of muscle wastage especially on my legs, but I have to be very careful with what and how I use equipment which is why I wouldn't go to any old gym, it would have to have the right sort of equipment and a trainer that knows exactly what my limits were for my condition.

| Exercise on prescription is a good initiative and I know a lot of clients with mental health problems have benefited from this, for varying reasons including social inclusion.
I understand the Government wanting to reduce the problem of obesity as obese related illnesses are costing a fortune to treat and individuals do pose some serious health risks, however what about individuals who are underweight, they are also at risk
I do not consider threats will help individuals to address obesity problems.I think the Governmen need to invest in education and support networks, they need to consider that obese individuals may have underlying psychological issues and exercise alone and reducing benefits may not be enough to address the issue.

Iceland or Aldi / Lidl.
You can pick up microwave meals for a quid. Some of them actually taste ok.
I keep a few of them in the freezer at work. Good for when working late nights.

I think the taste is monosodium glutamate rather than anything else. I must admit that on the odd occasion I have shopped in these stores we have had some good quality stuff (especially fruit and veg), but geographically ASDA is closest.

I'd agree. But this most assuredly isn't an initiative that [iencourages[/i people to lose weight, it's an initiative that threatens and bullies people into losing weight.

I remember, prior to the last general election, members of the public being canvassed their opinions on various party policies. The researchers listed a number of policies and asked the public if they agreed. The researchers did not tell the public which party each policy belonged to.
The BNP fared particularly well. Needless to say, when it was revealed that people had 'liked' a BNP policy, the people withdrew their support for it.

Or, in this instance, just stick. It's just another way this government are targeting the poor who, let's face it, are not the only ones who are overweight. Are they going to tax overweight workers more heavily to fund [itheir[/i drain on NHS resources?
If they really wanted to do something about the obesity epidemic, there are far better ways than trying to render people who are already struggling (many through no fault of their own) unable to pay their bills.

Yeah, because nobody on here ever disagreed with a single policy or action of the last Labour government.
What amuses me about this is that the people leaping to the defence of this halfwitted policy are the very same people who are first in line to moan about the 'nanny state'.

I'm not defending it, I'm kind of 'meh' on the issue, it's a non story.

Could you name these 'usual suspects', because I've never seen anyone on here agree whole-heartedly with every single Labour policy. There are those - myself included - who will say that, whilst Labour are far from perfect, things are usually better for the most vulnerable members of our society under a Labour government that a Tory one, but I literally don't know a single poster who trots out the 'Labour good, Tory bad' mantra you are suggesting they do.
It's also worth mentioning that most of those who dislike the Tory government support certain policies, gay marriage being an obvious example.
