Quote ="sally cinnamon"The Chancellor doesn't need to be an economics graduate if he has the right people around him, however Osborne has surrounded himself with a cabal of 20something year old socialites from upper class backgrounds that are his 'special advisors':

There's no way these kids who have no real lifetime experience of the real world are the best and most experienced people for a job at this level, they have just networked their way into jobs which will look great on their CV and are totally out of their depth directing a country's economic policy in such difficult circumstances.'"
Its like handing the country over to a set of sixth formers.
Team Cameron/Osborne are going to find it increasingly difficult to connect with the voters if the "posh boys" tag keeps getting used by the media - expect to find Clegg being brought more to the front to take some of the fire anytime around now, he looks just as posh and is as disposable as a Bic razor to Team Cameron/Osborne.

| Watched Brian Paddick on Daily Politics today and he put forward an idea that I have suggested for long enough now.
London can now build its own housing (a la GLA), London owns thousands of hectares of land suitable for social housing projects. The land would be built on utilising capital secured from The City, figuring that there are enough pension funds and other institutional investors who would prefer to invest in rental properties, as opposed to government bonds. As the cost of the actual build is only 40% of a new property price, these homes could be rented at 40% of market rates and still provide an attractive ROI to institutional investors.
The investors get a better return than government bonds with almost the same security. People are employed to build the projects. People are then housed at reasonable rents, with little to no need for claiming rent allowances. There is a knock-on improvment to the economy and such a scheme would be far more effective in reducing overall rents.
What's the problem?

Try telling that to the half million who will lose ESA benefit from Monday or the 1 million who are on DLA at the moment but will not qualify for the new Personal Independant Payment. You have been running away for 2 years IDS and you haven't stopped running yet.

I don't think anyone is fooled by IDS's apparently sudden bout of social conscience, he probably thinks that if Gideon looks to him for an extra £10bn, he won't have a department left to run.
I'm just enjoying the infighting, it makes a great spectator sport

When Hunt goes, will the trail lead direct to Osborne and then Dave Boy? Mr Murdoch may have done the country a great favour.

| Murdoch is not alone in culpability, but he bears a large degree of responsibility for the dumbing down of public discourse in this country.

| The complete confusion over who is dealing with the whole Hunt issue gives more credence to the view that the country has been handed over to sixth formers. Leveson is being used as a smokescreen to avoid them having to investigate. It's a clear ministerial issue that overrides Leveson and they know it. I suspect as Dally says, they don't want to look at Hunt too closely in case the whole background is revealed.

| I wonder if an FoI request could reveal just how substantial the bung was that Adam Smith received to take the flak?
It's also worth noting that it took Hunt over 24 hours to agree to release e-mails & texts between he and Smith, plenty of time for some textual cleansing

I recollect he went through all this bollox over Liam Fox, it's just another example of a poor picker of men seeking to justify his original decision. The bloke (Cameron) is sheer bloody incompetence and sheer bloody mindedness personified.

| From Steph's link, this speaks volumes:
[iWhen I wake up tomorrow morning I shall still be unwell, I shall still be unemployed, and I shall still be struggling with the myriad problems that chronic ill health brings.
Tomorrow I will simply become a small piece of collateral damage in the government's drive to reform welfare spending.[/i
No doubt one of the resident mini neo-liberals will be along soon to tell us the author is not in "the real world"

You have to wonder whether he dare let Hunt resign. At the moment Hunt is taking the flak for the Tories' previous pro Murdoch stance. Cameron hob-nobbing with Rupert and James, horse riding with Rebeckah, discussing informally the bid for total ownership of BskyB, among themselves. Presumably Hunt was just reflecting the zeigeist of the regime. How was he (or the rest for that matter) to know that 6 months down the line Murdoch's chickens would come home to roost with a vengence.
Whilst in opposition and in the early days of his government, Murdoch was saying jump and Cameron & co were saying "how high?" The sooner Murdoch is eliminated from a position of power and influence on our politics the better. The last lot kow-towed to him and for all we know took us into Iraq on his say so.
"I've never asked for favours from any government" he didn't need to ask!!

In October 2010 this is what Osbourne was saying about growth in the economy. Only 4 months after his first budget the economy was still being affected by the previous government's policies. But Ossy takes the credit of course.

I cant see or hear any obvious editing joints and so I can only assume that the bloke is a complete fooking idiot to treat a media interrogator like that, its hardly surprising that when your job is to interview these buffoons then when you get the chance to stick the boot in you do it, twice, and one more for good measure - whoever is doing their media training is dumber than they are to think it will work.
Not that I blame the posh boy alone for all politicians of all hues are the same, you can count on the fingers of one hand which MP's tell it like it is rather than following the press office pre-approved script of answers and the ones who tell it like it is are the ones who get shoved to the back benches and gagged from speaking, only surviving because their constituents love the fact that they tell it like it is -see Skinner for example.
Just for once I'd like one of them to just say it out loud - we're all fooked and frankly we're just dithering around and hoping that something good happens before the next election, or else we'll be fooked, clueless and out of a job too.

After watching Cameron's performance on the Andrew Marr show yesterday, I had to rewind and replay the bit where he blamed Europe for our return to recession. The man's a diplomatic nightmare. We rely on Europe for over 40% of our exports, what did he seriously hope to achieve by blaming them for not buying enough from us?
I do hope his party don't kick him out, the way he's going they'll be unelectable for decades to come.
