Hang on – you've just essentially stated that your own earlier post was pointless, then!
If there's no singular definition, then why try to make one?
And I'm still waiting for your answer.
What are the pay rates for a "supposed socialist"?

| Thread cleaned, I suggest everyone takes a deep breath, answers the questions each still has open and does so civilly.
The moderators of this forum couldn't give a flying one about which side of the debate you are on, cool it.

That's easily answered Gary. I enjoy people watching. Have you never sat outside in Leeds Centre and watched the World drift by.....observed the facial expressions and listened to the tones of their voices....seen the sometimes surprising gentleness contrast with the outwardly ugly visage.... the occasional act of civility?
Try it. Now perhaps you could offer up an explanation why you feel the bizzare need to log in and comment, not under your own original Log In name, but for example in this thread alone, we have had Jerry Chicken and El Barbundo. I can understand Danny doing it, that is simply Danny being Danny (HIM), but a respectable middle of the road chappy from Horsforth?
You would make an excellent candidate for observation.

| No response from Sal. Strange as he's active on SouthStander, maybe he's forgotten. Although he's been caught out lying on there too so he's probably distracted trying to hide it.

| Yet another example of how out of touch certain sections within this Union are in Scotland. Does anyone think that this a valid [url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2480643/Labours-Unite-paymasters-intimidated-managers-oil-refinery-battle.htmlTactic[/url in any Industrial dispute?
I remember Court cases arising from similar acts of intimidation and assaults here in pit villages in Yorkshire during the Miners Strike, but seriously, 30 odd years later, there are actually people within the Union movement who still chose to follow this path?

Well, my name's not Gary for a start, so you've got ground to make up there.
Neither do I use the name Jerry Chicken ... mind you, I do know who does, and good company he is too although I haven't seen him in a couple of years.
I also know who Sal Paradise and Cod'ead are ... and they too are perfectly nice people to meet.
There's a gulf between idle people-watching (a pastime in which I've been known to indulge) and having specific candidates for observation (which, if I may say so, sounds a little strange).
Oh, and my original login name is El Barbudo.
I did have a brief period a few years back where I changed it to Peaseblossom, for no particular reason, but then changed it back which is why (if you look left at my avatar) you can see I show up as having registered 11 years ago.
I am not from Horsforth either ... and I take exception at being described as "respectable".

| I don't particularly have a problem with the leafleting (though I suppose it depends what's in the leaflet) but protesting outside someone's house is too far in my opinion. And it's sad that some people in Unions go so far because it's a movement that I support in principle.

This.
Mind you, I'd need to read it in another newspaper before accepting it as the whole truth ... this is the [iDaily Mail[/i we are talking about.
I recall during the "Winter of discontent", the [iDaily Mail[/i printed a story about striking lorry drivers following a lorry along the motorway and, when it pulled into the services, dragging the strike-breaker from his cab and beating him up.
It was a complete and total lie, the incident was a robbery, nothing to do with the strike.
That's the [iDaily Mail[/i for you.

The bullet points just mean "Or ...".
The succinct definition given by the OED looks fine to me.

No, you quoted [ipart[/i of one description (well one definition to be pedantic) because that suited your argument.
Quote I suspect there isn't a person on here who could give a succinct definitive definition of Socialism - and that includes you and Mintball.'"
So why did [iyou[/i try?
The Oxford dictionary definition i.e. all of it, looks OK to me.
What [iI[/i consider a key [ipart[/i of socialism is you take out of society in proportion to what you put in.
This is why I am happy to pay my taxes and have them spent on the welfare state even if I don't need to access much of it. However I do expect [isomething[/i back which is why I object to have to pay for things that used to be free e.g. University tuition fees. These days I see most ordinary people "putting in" as they can't avoid tax (not that they should) while the well off (and large corporations) do not "put in" in anything like the same proportion of their income and yet they remain largely unaffected by the cuts and increase in VAT etc.

It's also hilarious the [iMail[/i going on about 'bullying', when its own editor is a renowned bully whose editorial meetings are known as 'The Vagina Monologues' and who is, apparently a master at 'double c*nting'.
On the lies, I also know someone about whom they published some fairly serious untruths. I also know how long it took to get even a basic, brief, hidden-away correction.

Not to you, maybe.
I thought it quite witty at the time and I had a signature paragraph on this very forum saying that I had changed my online name "to get in touch with my feminine side", I even had a picture of a delightful fairy as my avatar.
My feminine side wasn't called Gary either.
