You may care to comment regarding the proposed dumping of 1500 illegal immigrants into a camp at Linton on Ouse. The population of the village is 1200. The local doctors can’t take anymore patients ,obviously any medical problems will land in the lap of York hospital. Not certain about Rwanda being the solution to the problem, I merely stated that EU are paying millions to the Turkish government to house Illegal immigrants in camps. I have 2 friends that are going through an extremely expensive process in bringing family members to the uk. They are going down the official route. The process has taken 3 years, one successful outcome so far. The other still ongoing , probably be easier and cheaper to go to France and hitch a lift on the frequent dinghy service. Apparently major delays to official applicants are due to the thousands of illegal immigrants who have to be processed first. Perhaps you may have the answer to the problem?

I suggest the problem is illegal immigrants , doesn’t really matter in which part of the country they are placed. A decent hotel in York is full of them, I can fully understand the rush to get out of France, when the reward is a place in one of the countries nicest cities. I think your friends have highlighted the problem with the current system in so far as we do not have legal routes for entry to the U.K. and then when you apply the Home Office is completely ill prepared.

Costa Rica and Indonesia. The lad who has been granted residency status is from Costa Rica is a highly skilled craftsman. To enhance his application he worked withot pay (genuine) for one company . He now has a good job with that company ,he has other companies chasing his skills.
The other applicant is an oil rig engineer , he married a Christian girl from one of the islands. At the moment they won’t even let her into the country, sadly his father is at the end of life with MS. So he will have to come back without her, He has been married to her for approximately 5 years. I was surprised just how much the application process cost.

But here's a little food for thought. a massive part of the reason why these people come here is because of people like you.
The Brits went out there and made the empire, they forced people to speak English and so now they do, they forced their ways and customs on them so now the people feel like they understand the country. They come here because they speak our language and know our ways and customs. They dont speak German, French, Italian or Greek. But those countries by the way have all taken more asylum seekers than we have. HTH.

More likely to have been part of the Ottoman Empire or under Italian rule for considerably longer than any U.K. rule.

The British empire existed to "civilize" the rest of the world.
It lingered after the ottoman empire ceased and so its influence will remain after. Which other language do they most likely speak Turkish, Italian or English? Why do you think this is the case? If you had the choice where would you rather live, in a place where you spoke nothing of the language and knew nothing of the country, or where you could get by and had some idea of the history of the place?

Sorry but can’t agree the sole reason asylum seekers head to U.K. is based on language.
English is (I’m guessing) second language in most European countries or at very least widely spoken, so don’t see why “language” would be a great influence on which country the asylum seeker heads for.
Furthermore I just can’t fathom why somebody fleeing persecution would risk jumping on a lorry/crossing the channel in a dinghy, generally putting their live at risk,because they may or may not speak English - English is widely spoken in the countries they have come through.

Asylum seekers come here because they know they can hold offshore bank accounts and fiddle their taxes.
