| So once again Johnson is late to the party in respect of the wearing of face masks. We were told several weeks ago that masks were not necessary because they had little impact despite what other countries had found except the USA and Brazil but now he is looking to make them mandatory.

I think the government thought as lockdown was eased it would quickly return to normal - it hasn't so they are trying everything they can to get people spending in the high street. The problem is it is the older people who are worried and they are not the one's who spend. Young people spend and they don't care - they will simply buy on line.

That pretty much illustrates how clueless Johnson’s government has been in dealing with EVERY aspect of the pandemic!

I think it wasn't just them - most financial institutions expected a faster bounce back than we have had.

You're not suggesting that they dont know what they are doing are you, Sal. ?
I haven't quite got over Sunaks meal discount.
Although the sentiments behind it may have been honourable, the very idea of government issuing "meal deals" is quite extraordinary.

When he announced it, reality hit home. Dining out, retail therapy and selling houses to each other is pretty much all we've got in the armoury.

| Johnson can’t even win a rigged vote and what does he and his adviser do but double down by removing the whip from the winner. If his hope was to delay the release of the Russia report until the summer recess then this action almost guarantees it won’t happen. The pair of them are clueless and cannot believe that some will always balk at following their draconian view.

I have consistently said the governments handling of the Covid 19 has been a shambles. The idea that relaxing the lockdown would be like the end of war simply hasn't happened - town centres are as flat as anything. Something needs to be done to stimulate activity in the hospitality sector. I quite like the idea tbh.

| Not a good day for the champagne socialists.
Labour could go bust due to the claims against them and in typical labour style, starmer gives an utterly embarassing tv interview.
And labour is back where it belongs in the polls lmao

Coupled with Mr Johnson being very open and honest that he too can see mistakes were made with Covid (with the benefit of hindsight) it seems all the lunatic lefties have scuttled under their rocks. They will be back soon I am sure, probably complaining about the lack of atmosphere on the moon or water in the desert, and it will all be Boris's fault.
They are simply going to have to accept that socialism is rediculous. Quite why anyone would want to 'achieve' what socialism stands for is beyond me. Without aspiration and achievement we wouldn't have a society. There will always be haves and have nots. The Politics of envy will never work.

You keep saying this in such a simplistic manner that it's hard to take you seriously.
The NHS is socialism.
Government provision of education is socialism.
The roads you drive on are socialist.
You are touched by the government controlling the means of production or distribution every day but pretend that it doesn't exist. Whilst also simultaneously pretending that Labour would extend the balance of our mixed economy in some unprecedented or outrageous way.
You still have a lot of growing up to do unfortunately.

You make me laugh, assuming you know my experience of business and life, but I guess you don't have much else to do, other than make up a picture in your mind of who I might be and what I might have (or it seems, in your head, not) achieved.
Sad, pathetic but keep going, so long as it gives you a reason to wake up every day.

| That two words you would never associate with Johnson “open and honest”. He is without doubt the most dishonest and untrustworthy member of Parliament and he is up against a lot of competition. I suppose if this is the type of person you want to run the country then you are more gullible than I thought and believe me I thought you were gullible.

I completely agree about Johnson but he is no worse than the likes of McDonald - who is brags about being a Marxist until it comes to the GE and all of a sudden he is Socialist!! At least he doesn't possess the hypocritical views of the Labour top brass - especially on education.

| Johnson is neck and neck with Thatcher when it comes to being the most destructive and devisive of PMs. However, Johnson has achieved this accolade in just 6 months and his worst is yet to come.

Thatcher inherited a situation whereby the unions held sway over the government - we had a host of under performing public sector industries - something needed to be done.
What has Johnson done - he has tried to manage a global pandemic - not as well as he could have - he has delivered Brexit as was voted for - not sure what else he has done wrong?

My main complaints include his reneging on the elements of the Brexit deal that were moved to the political declaration. In fairness, everybody knew he was going to do this because 1. Why ask for them to be moved if you intend to adhere to them? and 2. He’s hardly renowned as a man of his word. This meant the oven ready deal went in the bin and, because he refused to buy time because of COVID, we’re seemingly heading for a no prep no deal, in which all the Yellowhammer perils look set to manifest. Slightly reassuringly from my perspective, there seems to be some agitation amongst supercore Brexiteers that the UK Government is about to compromise to secure some sort of deal and is just working out how to present it to people like them - so we’ll see. I’ve seen nowt to suggest it in the media I trust though.
There was also that time he wazzed away several £ billions net from the EIB, because... he’s a bit clumsy and forgetful... or desperate and holding no metaphorical cards, perhaps.

Stevie Wonder could see what was coming - why would the EU give us preferential terms? It seems they want all the control and we have to do as they say e.g. fishing, ECJ, state aid. There is one silver lining - we escaped a series bullet in respect of the costs associated with EU Covid bail out - £55bn I read somewhere. A no deal Brexit was the only logical outcome - clean split.

Perhaps. Doesn’t excuse the lack of preparation though. I’m happy to make allowances for COVID - but if this was obvious (and I agree it was, once Johnson won his big majority), they could have started getting ready for the no deal, while the pointless pretend negotiations were ongoing.
My worry is the Cummings-Gove-Johnson troika don’t know the answers, but have possibly worked out that there aren’t any good ones they can come with in the time available and are just hoping it is the millennium bug all over again. Confidence and optimism - they have their place, but they’re not really a substitute for plans and action.
