| I use CutePDF for outputting, no problems.
Adobe on the other hand is a bloated POS.

| right, finally invested in a new laptop, I've got Norton AV on it (because I had a three PC liscence with a space on it), anything else I should be running to keep it safe and running at optimum speed?
(and don't say linux or other such stuff as it isn't viable for me)

Football Manager 2011 is an essential utility for all computers. You really can't go without this one.
Vuze is fantastic for prawn, which everyone likes, right?

You need an anti virus program, Malware Bytes only sorts trojans and other nasties like that.

Yes, remove Norton (IMO). Purchase a less bloated AV.

Norton doesn't seem as bloated as some people would have me believe, as I said, it's bought and paid for now so I can't justify binning it.

It's resulted in slowdown on every single PC I've ever installed it on. Not as bad as MacAfee, mind.
That said I haven't touched it for a while so maybe it's been trimmed down again. Back in the day it was a great piece of software.

| Right - I have a problem with my laptop at home, some pages won't load (RLFans & BBCi) whereas others will, I have done the usual - Scans, change of browser, emptying caches, checking security levels but all to no avail. They just time out or 'hang', any ideas? The browsers I have used are the latest versions of IE, Firefox and Safari

I did but the offers change quickly.
Basically any decent make (Toshiba, HP, Acer) 3GB RAM as a minimum, anything over a 250GB hard drive.
You may have to up the budget though, 299 was about the going rate

| The Mrs has got a new laptop from work and it's pretty good, I'm using it now. But it is impossible to download anything, no matter what it is, the downloads stop at 99%.
Any suggestions? I'm using the administrator account and there are no corporate restrictions etc, it's just fresh out of the box. I've tried turning the AV temporarily but this doesn't do anything and there is plenty of disk space.

Sounds like something is happening when the browser is writing the files to the download folder from the temp file it uses to download to.
Are you sure there are no restrictions on the machine, usually in the group policy management console where all these restrictions are made.

| Setting up (well finally got round to) splitting off company network (with full resource access) and a guest network (with internet access only), fairly simple, reckon two vlans should do it?

Yes only on the laptop at home and is a recent problem, every page loaded as normal up until several weeks back, nothing has been installed so as to upset anything (I have downloaded Safari and Firefox so as to eliminate any browser issues). It is just the RLFans page that won't open now, all the rest load perfectly.

I think the only plug in they use is Flash for the adverts that fund the swimming pools, Mercedes cars and holiday villa in the Seychelles.
I would say uninstall the browser, install it again, update flash and see what happens.

It's a strange one. I have checked the policies but it doesn't show anything unusual. I am thinking it may be a hard drive issue as torrent downloads also error, but say 'error - write size larger than expected'.
But I've scanned the hard drive and it found no errors.
Think I'm going to get her to phone the customer support line/send it back if it continues.

Aye, mind don't mention the torrent thing
Have to tried setting up a directory in the root of the C drive and downloading to that? Tried copying from a USB stick?

Does the laptop work OK elsewhere?
Have you changed your router recently?
I had a similar problem when we changed routers at work - for some reason certain web pages just wouldn't load or loaded very slowly with no graphics. I eventually solved it by turning off the firewall on the router. Seemed to be interfering with the built-in Windows 7 firewall for some reason.
