| Depends how you want to 'celebrate' the extra day I suppose. A free day off will do me no matter how bad the deceased! Ideally I'd get the day off then volunteer to cover my own shift for "Double bubble". She'd like that!
Worked for Diana's funeral. Kerching!

| It not an extra days holiday though, its the same August Bank Holiday which currently does not have a name other than the one that everyone knows as "August Bank Holiday" that would be renamed "August Bank Holiday Margaret Thatcher Day".
Personally I think its too many words for a holiday and if they vote for anything could probably just vote to call it "Holiday".
Of course Tory politicians like having holidays named after them - Kenneth Baker was the last one flinging days off for schoolteachers all over the land, called them "Baker Days" he did - true story.
Lots of teachers took the day off to bake things, sort of missed the point really.

| If them useless berks had got her at Brighton I'd have settled for a Thatcher Day.
It would have been a pleasant time for remembrance.

All the public schoolboys from all parties who delusionally agree that she did wonders for the ordinary man in the street.
The same ones who now deride and blame all the ills in society on the underclass she lavishly helped to create.
Funny aint it?

The ones stupid enough to think there is a majority of people who hold her in the obvious reverence they do?
If they want to have a holiday named after a Tory politician surely it should be Churchill? Despite his war leadership and some other notable interventions such as being a supporter of a minimum wage he was still not much of a friend to the working class but I could cope with a day named after him all the same.

| I think it's a long overdue acknowledgement of one of the greatest Political figures in UK politics of the last century.
The woman who turned the UK from being the sick man of Europe into a competitive trading nation again.....put the negative and divisive Trade Union bullyboys to the sword ....and found time along the way to show Johnny Foreigner that the British Lion still had teeth.
Not bad for a lass of humble beginnings, who lived over the shop in a small provincial town.
And for those sad deluded folk who have lived their lives vicariously through their support of Socialist Policies, which so spectacularly failed them, they can simply excercise their right to take a different view, and go to work on that day. Not at double bubble though.....that would be hypocrisy of the highest order.
For the Benefits Brigade, unless HMG organises some street parties for them, with appropriate plastic Union Flags to wave at the Media cameras, then it will simply be another empty day, which would merely highlight the vacuous existence of many of them.
I commend the idea to the House!

As she is the woman who's neo-liberal policies are at the root of all the problems we face today only someone as daft as those proposing this would write the above.
Even if you believe the tripe you have written and aren't trolling you would have to be an idiot not to realise it would be hugely controversial and divisive to do this.

| Once again, its not an extra public holiday, its the august bank holiday that we're talking about.
They can call it what they like (not that this suggestion is anything but fluff and nonsense) I will still take my august bank holiday (unless I'm on call which I have a 50% chance of so being) and it will not be called anything but august bank holiday.

| or Brixton Riot Day?
or Toxteth Riot Day?
or St Paul's Riot Day?
or Battle or Orgreave Day?
or just plain and simple "Thatcher's Civil Disobedience Day" - a day when people can riot iwith immunity from prosecution n memory of a great national hero and then get a new leisure centre in their locale. Everyone a winner - especially as there'll soon be no high street shops to loot.

History, the truth and current state of Britain are obviously areas where you are/have been let down by those who tried to educate you.
It's sad really and even more so to know that there many more like you around who have been so badly let down.
Sadly the "UNIONS" are now controlling the country and Europe and not one of them is accountable to the electorate.

Unless you can prove that more than half of the nation approve of 'Thatcher Day', then I'd hazard a guess that, as usual, you are spouting shee-ite.
Personally, I reckoned if you polled the nation about it, the results would read something like this -
About 5% ( consisting of the blue rinse brigade who adored her and the odd crank like Ajw71) agreeing passionately with it.
A similar amount (people with too much time on their hands) being equally passionate against it.
The rest, the vast majority, will simply shrug their shoulders and find themselves asking why our politicians haven't got more important things to be doing, than going through the process of giving a bank holiday a title that most people won't acknowledge anyway.

| I don't think it is right to call a holiday after such a devisive character especially when there are people way ahead of Thatcher in the queue.
We could start a list .... if we are going for a politician ....William Wilberforce day.
The sky's the limit .....

Never said anything about this.
My point is about the numerous left wingers on this forum who hate Thatcher and believe that the rest of the country does too. This isn't the case as all the evidence suggests.
Still as Jerry Chicken's latest sound-bite goes 'If you BELIEVE it, it must be true'.
