Loiner4lifes Cup Preview
Posted by southstander on May 09 2008 - 11:19:42

Not L4L!
by Loiner4life

With a week off for the Challenge Cup, Loiner4Life found himself bored at work. So he went and did a Carnegie preview for us.

Some difficult ones to call here, especially winning margins, so don't take any of these down to the bookies!

Read more here....

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in the Challenge Cup.

Why was Eddie having a raging climax over how wonderful and amazing Saints were - no they werenít Wigan were just utter crap!!!!! Itís annoying seeing Cas and Wigan getting turned over at the weekend seeing they are the only two teams to have taken points away from you. Wire fought back but got the expected win, Iím fed up of thinking they will overturn there fortune against Saints maybe reverse psychology (spell checker used!!!) and I am going for a home win. I wont say I know too much about Barrow apart from they defeated Hunslet last time out - you can't read much into that as only Rochdale and lesser Challenge cup sides have lost to the Hawks. Wakefield, like Saints, came up against a pretty poor side which reflected the result. I expect Danny Brough to continue his great season and run the show, in what should be a one sided tie. Last seasons finalists good run could come to an end this week - the Bulls will be hoping to bounce back after getting a tanking from Leedsís half A/half B team. Catalans scored some pretty good tries last week and will be hoping the form will catapult them into this tie. Bulls do have 3-4 players out and 3-4 players two stone over weight but with it being a home tie Iím just going to have them to sneak it. Bulls by 4

I couldnít possibly comment on this game as I know nothing about either other then they have riots in Oldham, and weirdoís in Dewsbury, so I asked Oldham Rhino to step in for this one.

NL1 v NL2 at Crown Flatt as the visitors look for a third NL1 scalp this season after defeating Salford and Whitehaven in the Northern Rail Cup. Oldham coach Steve Deakin threatened to quit after the game against Blackpool on Monday after a similar press conference to one that Brian McDermott produced in Cardiff last weekend. Oldham have only lost once in NL2 while Dewsbury currently prop up the rest in NL1. Could be a shock on the cards here but the greater experience of the home side should see them through. Brian comes up against his old side this week and heíll be praying that if the score is tight with 5 mins to go that is team will hold out unlike the previous 2 games. Leeds may have Gaz Ellis back but are missing Brent Webb due to a friendly old slap head will be at (in case you didnít know!!!) I fully expect Leedsís name to go into the hat for the next round by a convincing margin. Leeds by 18

In my opinion this will be the toughest game to call at the weekend you donít know which KR or Giants team will turn up both are too inconsistent. Hull KR will have to keep Robinson and Jenson quiet while the Giants will be looking at keeping Webster and Cook at bay. I think the deciding factor here is the home advantage KR have and a little more form the Huddersfield. KR by 8

Could there be a shock on the cards in this round? If there is then this would be the game to put you money on IMO. I was right last week Hull reached a dead end they are by far under achieving considering Leeds have had very poor luck with injuries yet manage to bring youth through Hulls are not performing. I think Hull would have sacked Peter Sharp by now if there was someone else available so it looks as though they will hang on until the end of the season. Widness well err - looking at the league table they have played 6 won 4 drawn and lost one but are second bottom - this bonus thing is really confusing!!!! Hull should defiantly have enough to beat the League 1 side. Hull by 28

I think Whitehaven will be on the receiving end of a backlash and I fear for them and fear for them big!!!! Haven will be happy Thomas Leuluai is missing plus a few others but I donít fancy haven putting too much of a fight up if Iím honest. Haven have lost 4 of there 6 opening league fixtures and concede an average of 24-25 points a game this will more then double in this fixture. Wigan to win by 58
