Millennium Magic or Revenge Match?
Posted by southstander on May 02 2008 - 15:20:00

Get In!

Tomorrow nights game should be about Millennium Magic, local rivalry, first against fourth, McClennan against McNamara. But it isn't.

All week the talk has been of revenge for the Bulls over the way that they were robbed of the points in last seasons Welsh away day thriller. Three days off a year ago a Sinfield penalty, off the posts and into the arms of Jordan Tansey clinched a controversial and sensational Rhinos win as the hooter sounded.

You can be sure that this injustice is what McNamara will have been drilling into the Bulls all week long.

We preview the game here...

It looks doubtful that Leeds will give a debut to on-loan player Eric Anselme, although he does get a mention in the nineteen. It has got to the point in the season when it is earier to say who is not injured rather than who is. Blueys seventeen is; Webb, Donald, Senior, McGuire, Burrow, Leuluai, Diskin, Peacock, Sinfield, Scruton, Ablett, Tansey, Hall, Burgess, Kaye, Worrall, Watkins, Jones-Bishop, and Anselme. I'd expect that it will be Jones-Bishop and Anselme who will miss out on the final seventeen.

Nine of the Rhinos seventeen would have been in McClennans first choice side, so almost half of the team is made up of what must be considered as stand-ins. It is good that they have stepped up to the plate when required, but is it too many, too fast?

Steve McNamara has injury problems of his own, but they are't quite as severe as ours. The Bulls have named a nineteen of; Tadulala, Langley, Halley, Kopczak, Sykes, Newton, Harris, Lynch, Evans, Platt, Solomona, Hape, Burgess, Deacon, Godwin, Tupou, Finnigan, Morrison, and Nero. Eleven of the nineteen are veterans of the 'famous injustice'.

Three great memories from last year;

We last played the Bulls six weeks ago and humiliated them by 44-2 in a game which we donimated from the first to the last. After going two points behind we hit the arch enemy with forty-four unanswered points. Not even Steve Gansons attempts to make amends for last years Millennium mistakes could help them.

In 2007 we won two, lost one and drew the fourth meeting 16-16. The aggregate was 90-106, but 5-3 in Superleague points. The Bulls trail us by five so far this season, as we reach towards half-way, and will be wanting to reel us in a little. Prediction
Rhinos 20 26 Bulls

I've just got the feeling that our injuries must catch up with us at some time, and with the Bulls being highly motivated for this one, then I'm going to have to go against our lads for the first time this season. Please let me be very wrong.

The bookies haven't put the handicaps up yet but I'd expect that we'll be the slight favourites, although they may call the game off scratch.

The roof is closed for all games this weekend so who cares what weather will be doing? For the record there is a chance of some rain, but this is likely to be showery.

Don't forget to get your predictions in here.
