Solid

What is it about Brian 'bloody' Noble?

He did it with Bradford and now he seems to keep doing it with Wigan. Once again he brought his side over the Pennines with no hope of the two points, and once again he's picked our pocket and taken the two from right under our nose.

The gap at the top is down to two.

We bring you all of the action here......

Superleague XIII

Round 10

5th April 2008

Nobbled by Nobby

With JJB and Danny McGuire added to the ever increasing list of Rhinos wounded it was once again a weakened squad from which Bluey had to mould his side. He opted for Sinfield at stand-off with Worrall starting at thirteen. Ellis was in the centres and Peacock the second row. Lee Smith was back in the side in place of Ryan Hall but lookig at the team sheet there was a nagging doubt as to whether we had enought there to repeat recent weeks electric performances. We started the game defending the Carnegie stand and facing into the dipping sunshine.

What we started with was a carbon copy of last weeks early injuries, this time it was Worrall and Lauiti'iti who were the victims. Both were off the field by the seventh minute and neither would be seen again, more additions to the physios list?

On eleven we went over for the opener after a Sinfield bomb was collected after the bounce by Diskin and passed wide to the wing where Donald just managed to get the ball down before being taken into touch. Sinfield failed with the conversion attempt from right on the whitewash, but after a tough opening few minutes we had the lead.

Now it was time to build on it.

100%er

On seventeen some good Wigan handling saw Richards over in the corner and he improved the angle for himself as he came behind the sticks unopposed by the Leeds defence. As he slotted over the two the visitors had a shock 6-4 lead, a little against the run of play.

Four minutes later and the lead was extended by two with a Richards goal from forty metres after Senior was penalised for holding a Wigan player on top of him as he was tackled. The conditions were also worsening as the skies darkened and wintry rain began to fall.

On thirty-five the Rhinos re-took the lead after capitalising on a forced dropout. As Leeds moved downfield a niceinside pass from Senior put Leuluai over under the sticks. The Sinfield conversion gave us a two point lead, hopefully to be carried to half time.

Scorer
With just seconds of the half remaining Diskin knocked on and after the scrum Wigan profitted from a dubious looking forward pass which saw the other Leuluai score under the sticks. Richards goaled as we came to terms with what had been missed by the officials.

It was one of those that was so blatant you wonder how they missed it, but also one that we've benefitted from on other occasions this season. You win some and you lose some and going into the interval we hoped that at the end of the match it wouldn't matter.

The second half was a total stalemate, but a cracking defensive show from both sides. The only time the whitewash was troubled was on seventy when Smith went over in the corner off what looked to be an okay sequence but the linesman who had missed Wigans 'American Football Style' try in the in the first half decided that ours was a tad forward.

In the end we were never in the game today and despite probably having the majority of the ball and territory we didn't do enough to get the two points. The conditions were not conducive to flowing rugby and Wigan battered us in the forwards, particularly as we played for seventy minutes with only two interchanges available.

Once again a Noble coached side got one over on us, lets hop it is the last time he leaves Headingley wearing a grin this season.

Big plaudits to Burgess, Smith, Donald, Peacock and Ellis tonight, none of them deserved to be on a losing side.
