Loiner4lifes SLXIII Round 1 Preview

Not L4L!
by Loiner4life

After AP decided that it was more fun to bait Saints message board users than to impart his weekly preview on us we have been without a regular pundit.

Trying to disprove the adage 'Fools rush in where angels fear to tread', Loiner4life should be applauded for putting his neck on the line and agreeing to give us his weekly insight into the weeks fixtures.

We start with Round 1.

Here are my thoughts on this weekend's action in Super League XIII - Round 1.

WOLVES v. HULL FC

Some of the biggest signings for 2008 make their super league debuts here Shaun Berrigan (Hull) Matt King, Michael Monaghan and Louis Anderson (all Warrington). Two teams surely fancying their chances of making the Grand Final this season and it should be a close game. Iím going to go for the Home team here due to Hullís Injury problems on the wings and I just think that Warrington have improved their squad a fraction better than Hull. Wire by 8

SportingOdds Handicap: Warrington (-12 ), Hull FC (+12 ) both at 10/11

TIGERS v. DRAGONS

Not to sound 'Jeff like' but I couldnít give a monkeys about this game it interests me about as much as Dot Cotton. But here goes anyway. The Dragons face a tough season. I think the loss of Stacey Jones will be massive, and there hasnít been much strengthening to the team other than Dane Carlaw. Castleford have two of last seasonís relegated teams better players in Dorn and Korkidas and have brought in Brent Sherwin who should be a good addition to the team. Cas have a good couple of young players too, so with that and home advantage Iím going to go with cas by 4.

HARLEQUINS V WARRIORS

I think the 'Quins could be fighting it out with the Dragons for the bottom slot all season and IMO I think Brian McDermott will be the first management casualty this year. Paul Sykes was a big player for the 'Quins I just donít think that Dwayne Barker and Danny Ward can bring that much to them. Wigan, on the other hand, have strengthened well and obviously Richie Mathers returns to Superleage, along with the pairing of Trent Barrat and Tomas Leuleui will be too strong for Quins likely pairing of ex-Wigan half-backs Paul and Orr.

HULL KR v. SAINTS

Hull KR will still be trying to gel as a team while Saints, like Leeds, are the same team tough start for the Ronbins. As with Leeds, I think Saints will have too much for Hull up front, and the kicking game from Long and Pryce should be a lot better then Hulls last week, Saints by 12.

GIANTS v. RHINOS

Were Leeds bad last week? or KR better then a lot of people thought? Huddersfield will miss Drew, while Leeds are as you were - the return to form of Bailey, Diskin and Ali are like new signings in the side after lay-offs so Iím going to go Leeds win by 8.

BULLS v. WILDCATS

Both have recruited quite a few players and I think the Bulls are going to miss Nathan McAvoy this season (sarcastic) they should just have enough to take Wakefield, who have probably got a better team on paper than last year. Harrisís last season (probably) so I think heíll be carrying the team most of the year with top-notch performances. I think it will be close but Bradford by 8.
