Pre-Season Steps Up a Gear
Posted by southstander on January 09 2008 - 15:24:44

The Rhinos pre-season, so far a bit of a damp squib, is about to move up to a whole new level thanks to this weekends Kevin Sinfield Testimonial game.

Brian McClennan has named the seventeen players who lifted the Grand Final silverware back in October with the only doubt being Carl Ablett. Nick Scruton who missed out in October is the eighteenth man in the strongest of squads.

While the Rhinos squad is the strongest available, the game is more likely to be a Rhinos exhibition rather than anything bordering a competitive match.

The part-timers, under coach Steve Deakin, finished fourth in National League Two last season and have been given some time off from evening training this week after a strenuous training camp last weekend.

Having just returned at the start of the week, many of the Rhinos international stars will inevitably be a bit 'rusty', but are all keen to play in support of skipper Sinfields testimonial.

Entry on the day is 12, just as it should have been on Boxing Day, and hopefully the turnstile operators will have plenty of change this weekend. I'd expect a reasonable crowd, hopefully more than the 5,681 that turned up this time last season for Keith Seniors game against Huddersfield.
