2005 Sponsors List Presentation Night a Great Success
Posted by southstander on January 09 2008 - 08:56:02

A great night was had by all who attended the Presentation Night 2007 at Headingley last night.

Five players were in attendance, along with the special guest, as fans turned out in their droves to take part in the fiendishly difficult quiz, get their photos and autographs with the players, and ask their questions of their heroes.

The main event of the night was to award the first team and senior academy player of the season awards for 2006 and 2007 to their resective winners. First up was Michael Ratu who has picked up the Senior Academy Player of the Season for the past two years and his award was presented by sponsor Matt Wharton. Mike has shown over the last two years that he has the calibre to make it in the first team, he just needs to get a lucky break and get in the side and then string a run of appearances together.

Next up was SouthStand favourite Rob Burrow, presented by Sarah Gill, who had sneaked the Player of the Season award, narrowly pipping Gareth Ellis, for the second year running. After picking up the Harry Sunderland Trophy in the Grand Final, and starring for Great Britain against the Kiwi's, Rob was delighted to be adding another award to his personal bulging trophy cabinet.

A question and answers session followed where fans had a chance to grill our two winners along with 2007 sponsored player Ashley Gibson, Academy player Michael Haley, and rising star and 2008 sponsored player Paul McShane.

Time was set aside for supporters to get photos and authographs from the lads before they slipped off for an early night before dawn training this morning. A special guest appearance was then made by the Superleague Trophy and it became the focus of attention as everyone got their photograph taken 'in the Sinfield pose'.

A devilishly difficult quiz then took centre stage, and was followed by a prize raffle.

Special Guest
Many thanks to all those who contributed to make last nights event happen. Rob Oates for setting everything up, the players for attending, Graham Eccles for his hospitality, Kevin Brock for bringing the special guest, Matt for hosting the evening, Nick for the quiz and the raffle, and Russ/Nick/Matt for donating raffle prizes.

I hope that everyone who attended had a great night, and hopefully we can repeat it all again sometime soon.
