When Two Worlds Collide

Leeds Rhinos take on Penrith Panthers in the first officially sanctioned Academy World Cup Challenge at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

The game which has been sponsored by Carnegie is at Under 20's level as the Panthers are touring at this age level in preparation for the Toyota Cup competition which begins next year down under.

The Rhinos look to add one final trophy to the collection in 2007 as they take on the Penrith Pathers in the Carnegie Academy World Club Challenge.

Leeds were winners in the Under 18's Junior Academy Competition and runners up to Hull FC in the Under 21's Senior Academy Championship, whilst Penrith won the Under 19's Jersey Flegg competition.

Leeds will go into this game with jusy three weeks training behind them whilst the Panthers had a hit out at St Helens on Wednesday night which saw them run out 26-0 winners. The Rhinos have a very experienced back line, one which formed the basis of the Senior Academy side whilst the forwards Michael Haley apart formed the basis of the Junior Academy side.

Penrith will have got the rust out of their system in the run out at Knowsley Road on Wednesday night. Lachlan Coote, Sam McKendry and Greg Waddell the stand out performers in the performance. The Panthers also include Sonny Tuigamala, brother of ex-Wigan player Va'aiga.
