Carl made his first team debut for the Rhinos in the 36-36 draw against London Broncos at Griffin Park in July 2004. He has made a steady rise up through the Academy ranks. Despite not appearing in the first team in 2005, Carl made 6 appearances in 2006 before a cruciate ligament injury ended his season and the subsequent knee reconstruction operation that followed.|
After rehabilitation, Carl made a try scoring return in the first Senior Academy game of 2007 against Huddersfield Giants before getting his first team opportunity and going on to make 13 appearances, all off the interchange bench, including the 33-6 victory in the engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.
