David Bywaters Player Appraisal - The Grand Final
Posted by southstander on October 16 2007 - 09:38:48

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

For the last time this season, David looks back to saturdays sensational Grand Final and gives you his thoughts on each Rhinos player.

I thought that the player scores in yesterdays Yorkshire Post were a bit on the harsh side, and Davids more closely reflect the efforts and performances that the lads put in to secure the Silverware.

Thanks to David for his appraisals throughout the season - we'll be doing some close season analysis of his figures to see who he really rated across the full season.

Read more here....

Here are Davids thoughts about Saturdays Grand Final against St Helens;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb9Appears very casual when collecting the kick however nothing casual when he joins the line - took his try superbly a fitting end to a very good first season at Leeds.
2Donald9Showed what he can do when he gets some quality service - left Wellens floundering when he went through the gears - the best winger in SL at the moment.
3Toopi9 Took a lot of stick early on for below par performance but Clinton really has answered his critics might not be the most inventive attacker but he is one of the most punishing defenders - would not like him to tackle me!!
4Senior9Keith saved his best performance of the season for the game that mattered - two wonderful passes to Donald led to two tries - almost faultless performance on the night.
5Smith9His best game in a Rhinos jersey - what a take for his try and his defensive effort was top notch - lets hope Lee can kick on from this.
6McGuire9A changed player this year - much more variety/quality to his game more a provider than a finisher and a kicking game that improves with every match..
7Burrow9All action game - ran himself into the ground - provided the energy and drive to the team when Saints got some momentum - superb.
8Leuleui9Not quite as destructive going forward but really put himself about in defence with some really big hits - his form over the past 6 weeks is one of keys to the Rhinos improved performances towards the end of the season.
9Diskin9Understated performance - quiet but very effective game - did his job in providing the half backs with reasonably quick quality ball and tackled as well as anyone.
10Peacock10My MOM - Eighty minutes of desire - up there with some of the finest GF performances. Jamie has stood head and shoulders above any forward in SL over the past 6 weeks lets hope he can do it for GB
11Jones Buchanan9If there was a MOM for effort and work rate JJB would have won it - his line speed is unrivaled in SL - just imagine how quick he will be without the beard? the try capped what has been a great season.
12Ellis10Virtually faultless performance - if he is going to the NRL the Rhinos have had their moneys worth - immense on the night unlucky not to win the Harry Sunderland.
13Sinfield10Awesome - epitomised the Rhinos - galvanised his troops into a season's best performance on the biggest stage.
14Lauiti'iti10Wow - what an impact - his try changed the game and his enthusiasm lifted his team mates - fantastic, no substitute for quality.
22Ablett9Many think Wilkin is the future for GB at 13 - rubbish Carl is the future - watch him - everything he does oozes quality - superb cameo once again.
16Bailey9Justified his inclusion with his best performance for three years - put himself about in defence and didn't hide when the hard yards were needed
18Kirke9Ian's best performance in a Leeds jumper - hurt some Saints players when he had ball in hand and hurt Bennett when he hit him full on!!.
