David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Wildcats Home
Posted by southstander on September 16 2007 - 06:25:08

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about Friday's home game against Wakefield;

1Webb8Much more assured than last week - lovely break down Wakefield's right for McGuire's first try.
2Donald9Another quality performance - only one small mistake in the game - superb break and pass inside for Burrow's second try.
3Toopi8 What a defender he is - he put a couple of hits on that made me winse - looked so much better and natural when moved to the left.
4Senior8Continued his solid run of form - nothing outstanding but very secure especially in defence.
5Smith8Significant improvement on last week - a couple of very promising runs with the ball especially the one for the his try - needs a defender as good as Toopi to cover for his defensive frailties
6McGuire9Just oozing quality - in the best form of his season - his kicking game has come on leaps and bounds this year. Scored two - should have been more - set up at least two in a quality all round performance.
7Burrow8Massive improvement on last week - took both tries very well lovely delayed pass for Sinfield's try - needs to exert greater influence on the play.
8Leuleui8I was a bit concerned when I saw him struggling for breath after ten but he was still bashing down defenders in the last ten minutes. His walk to the bench on his first substitution took so long it was time for him to come back on by the time he reached the bench!!
9Diskin7A couple of good runs but only played thirty minutes - not sure if he picked up an injury?.
10Peacock8Whilst Jamie really put himself about I am not convinced this is his best position - he looked so much more effective in the second row - I would like to see him run deeper and receive the ball five metres deeper than he does now.
11Jones Buchanan7Jamie is all heart and endevour - the question is - is this what is required of a second row in a top side?.
12Ellis8A couple of massive hits - his attack and offload have stagnated under Smith - with Ellis and JJB we have two good defenders but no attacking potency .
13Sinfield8Excellent all round performance contributed in both attack and defence, kicked his goals and some lovely footwork for a try.
14Lauiti'iti9My MOM - never thought I would say that - nobody had a greater influence on the game than Ali - he just could be the difference if we are to win the GF.
23Tansey7Slightly disappointing although with McGuire, Burrow and Sinfield plus Jordan it could just be a case of too many cooks in the play making department.
17Kirke7Maybe it is just me but Ian appears to be very one dimensional - a poor mans JJB - with Bailey and Thackray to come back can't see Ian seeing much more game time this season.
22Ablett8Carl does all the basics so well - a couple of really nice offloads and very solid defence when replacing Senior in the centre - he would be my utility player ahead of Tansey.
