David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Reds Home
Posted by southstander on August 12 2007 - 05:29:36

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about Friday's game against Salford;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
23Tansey6A bit like the rest of his team mates good when he wanted to concentrate - very good under the kick through. His positioning was excellent throughout the game - however some silly errors with ball in hand.
2Donald7Partly to blame for the first Salford try but was at the end of a thrilling Rhinos move for his try.
3Toopi8 Moved around from centre to loose forward to scrum half - all of which he coped with pretty well - his run and pass for Donald's try was top draw.
4Senior8Carried on from last week's solid performance with another very good all round display..
25Hall7Took his try well but showed some inexperience - as you would expect - when partnered with Ratu in the second half. His two handed catch to start the movement for the Donald try was something to see
13Sinfield7Seemed to be slightly at odds with the position Smith asked him to play - not quite as influential as you would have expected him to be.
6McGuire8Controlled the attacking side of the Leeds game - bombed one try through his indecision when a pass to Tansey on his left would have given the full back a clear run to the line.
8Leuleui7Some penetrative runs on a night when Kylie was given more game time than usual - I would like to see him play slightly wider in attack running at the centres/second rows.
9Diskin7Looked very sharp considering he hadn't played for a month - sadly threw an interception that lead to a Salford try - on the whole a good performance.
15Thackray8My MOM as good as anyone on the field - showed a great step off his left foot for the second week running for his first try.
10Peacock8Given he played all the first half and 20 minutes of the second half either he is being rested next week or he has upset Smith big style - very solid contribution in a muddling contest.
11Jones Buchanan6One nice run for Tansey's try that apart a pretty disappointing display - hopefully Smith will rest him next week and put him on the bench against Bradford - his form has spiralled downwards in the last few weeks.
13Ellis8His usual consistent self - nothing bad nothing sparkling - Mr Reliable.
14Lauitiiti7Took his try well and gave the side a lift when he entered the fray - whilst not giving out miracle offloads you know he is on the field - could be the key element to the Rhinos achieving things later in the season.
17Scruton5Sadly a broken hand has finished what will be a season to forget for Nick - the score reflects the ten minutes he actually spent on the field.
27Ratu6Glad to see Michael getting a game - less glad that Smith partnered him with another novice in Hall - surely he should have swopped Senior so Michael played alongside Donald in his first game. Having said that some nice touches ball in hand.
18Kirke7Ian made some very good runs with the ball in hand - whether he has the quality to make an impact at this level I am not sure.
