Davis Bywaters Player Appraisal - 'Quins Away
Posted by southstander on August 07 2007 - 08:53:42

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are Davids thoughts about Sundays away game against Harlequins;

1Webb7Jekyll and Hyde performance - sin binned once again - his tackling technique needs some serious work - a poor first half yet put in a brilliant second half when combining with McGuire at half back.
2Donald7Nowhere to be seen for Sykes' try when the quins had a two man overlap outside him. That apart did nothing wrong and contributed a good try in the second half
3Toopi6 Unimpressive - missed tackles and silly offloads were the order of Clinton's day - needs to return to the level of performance he was delivering earlier in the season.
4Senior7Solid game - looks the same physically as he did two years ago but it is shame his power and speed have deserted him. What will he be like in another year?.
25Hall6Little involvement in the game - however dealt competently with whatever came his way.
6McGuire9MOM - showed the doubters what he can do when he is given the freedom and responsibility to control the attack - superb 40/20 and several deft offloads and passes.
7Burrow5The score reflects the lack of game time. If the injury is a rib cartilage Rob could be out for a few weeks.
16Bailey6Better defence than attack - I would be interested to see how many hit ups Ryan did - he seems to shy away from taking the ball in - yet another inocuous performance.
13Sinfield7Like many of his team mates better in the second half than the first - thankfully McGuire and Webb took the kicking from hand responsibility away from him - what do these guys do in training?.
8Leuluai6His impact in games is very limited - is he worth his place for 4/5 runs a game - if he broke the line I would agree but he doesn't - having both him and Bailey in the side explains our lack of go forward.
11Jones-Buchanan6Some players never learn - a JJB offload helped Wakey win the last home game yet JJB persisted in offloading straight into the hands of a Quins player - not once but twice - that could have been very costly in a crucial game.
10Peacock7Looked a bit more lively than in previous weeks maybe the thought of Smith going in a couple of months has spurred him on - one or two very positive runs in the game.
12Ellis7Not quite at the level he was in the first part of the season - perhaps the earlier workload is taking its toll. I would rest Gareth for the next two games so he is fresh for the run in.
11Lauiti'iti 7Gave the forwards a bit of umph when he entered the fray - lets hope he can stay fit until the end of the season.
15Thackray8Without a shadow of a doubt our best prop once again - deft footwork for his try that capped and a very fine performance - not far off the Rhinos player of the season.
18Kirke6I cannot get excited by Ian's contribution - yes he takes ball up but his inclusion is not related to his quality on the field - Nick Scruton must be wondering if selection has anything to do with quality on the field
23Tansey7Filled in all over the pitch - superb piece of skill for his try - worth the admission money on its own - with Burrow likely to out for a couple of weeks Jordan might get an opportunity to start a game or two.
