Lets All Laugh at Wigan....Again!
Posted by southstander on August 02 2007 - 13:21:53

Toys Out of the Pram!

It's easy to laugh at Wigan...and at the moment...a great deal of fun.

The loss in the semi-final to the Catalans has the whole sport cheering, but it seems to have unbalanced those at the top of the Warriors.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than Maurice Lindsay admitting defeat and throwing in the towel, Warriors owner Dave Whelan has gone off on one about how his team is being unfairly persecuted by the RFL.

Read more here....

Mr Whelan, wake up and smell the coffee.

You are being 'persecuted' by the RFL because you have systematically tried to cheat the system over several seasons, and been repeatedly caught. The only people in the world who think that you've been harshly treated by the RFL are Maurice and yourself, the rest of the game thinks that Mr Lewis and the RFL have treated you too lightly.

Has Whelan decided to sell up, and Lindsay decided to quit, as both are already aware that their dodgy accountancy will have put them through this seasons cap and see an additional points deduction?

The recent outburst is pure hypocrisy. Whelan is an exponent of the salary cap within his major passion, football, where his limited resources mean that he cannot compete with the big teams. He's now come out against it in rugby league, where his money goes a lot further in buying success.

Wigan have fallen from their position of dominance in the mid-1990's and under the recent ownership of Whelan, and custodianship of Lindsay, have become a team unable to re-capture their former glory. Despite an eye-watering 222k overspend last season, they still missed the play-offs and the penalty for that is that they are likely to miss out again this season.

Wigan Warriors fans must be concerned. If Whelan sells up will their tenure at the JJB be guaranteed? Who will take over? And how can they revitalise the fortunes of the ailing team without spending the vast amounts of money that Lindsay and Whelan have on overseas superstars and the best of domestic talent?

Whelans outburst is embarrassing. He's clearly lost it and has developed a nasty little paranoid persecution complex. Would the services of a psychiatrist be counted on the 2007 salary cap?
