Our Favourite Referees
Posted by southstander on August 01 2007 - 13:15:39

Always Ash

When Phil Bentham was named on the message board as this weeks man in the middle, one of our number commented 'Chalk up another loss for us, he was a joke last time he had us.'.

This got me thinking. Of the twenty-eight games played this season, including the pre-season friendlies, are there any standout officials who are good or bad for us?

So I did a bit of digging.

Read more here....

We've been officiated over by seven different referees this season with Silverwood and Thaler topping the 'exposure' list at seven times each. We've had Ian Smith and Ashley Klein on four occasions each, with Steve Ganson taking charge three times, Phil Bentham twice and Jamie Leahy just once in the cup game against Workington.

Under three of these officials we have won every game, Klein, Ganson and the afore mentioned Leahy. They're our favourites, especially that nice Mr Ganson!

Ben Thaler hasn't done too bad by us, as we've won six out of the seven games that he's officiated. But then we start to get into a bit of trouble at the hands of the remaining three referees.

Ian Smith, always one of my favourite no-nonesense whistle blowers has a 50% win ratio for Leeds with two from four. I guess that that is just about bearable, but then we encounter the devils of the piece.

When Richard Silverwood has been in charge we've lost more than we've won with a 3 to 4 record of wins against losses. But it is our ref for this weekend, Mr Bentham, who proves our canny message board pundit correct in that we've lost both of the games that he's taken charge of this season.

So the next time the officals are named, keep your fingers crossed for Steve or Ash, and definitely hope that we'll see very little more of messers Silverwood or Bentham for the rest of the season.
