Three Fight it Out for Player of the Season
Posted by southstander on July 18 2007 - 13:43:58

Top Again

With just seven rounds of voting remaining in our quest for Rhinos player of the season, the old favourites are establishing themselves at the top of the pile. At this point last season the race was almost over as Rob Burrow had established a massive lead at the top.

This year he has not had it all his own way and although he is leading at the moment, it is a very narrow lead of Gareth Ellis who has been in the top spot for most of the year.

It looks like every vote will count over the remainder of the season.

Now in its seventh seacon, the prestigious SouthStander.com Player of the Season trophy bears was established to reward the player that you felt performed consistently well over the season. You vote for your man of the match in each round and we count up the votes each week an allocate the relevant points to the player.

The great names which already adorn the coveted trophy are; Robbie Mears (2001), Matt Diskin (2002), Matt Adamson (2003), Danny McGuire (2004), Kevin Sinfield (2005) and Rob Burrow last year. The vote winners tend to be players who wear their hearts on their sleeves, who are through-and-trough Rhinos, and who show that little bit extra week in and week out.

2007 newcomers Webb and Thackray are both putting up a good showing to be in the top five but barring injury it looks like the competition is a shoot out between previous winners Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow and the much improved Gareth Ellis who has been steadily putting in excellent performances week after week.

It's all down to you. Will Rob get the trophy for the second season running? Will Sinfield come through from third place to snatch the trophy? Or will this be Gareth Ellis's year?

See the current table here.
