David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Dragons Home
Posted by southstander on April 29 2007 - 11:27:20

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about Fridays home game against the Catalan Dragons;

1Webb9My MOM - not for the 3 tries but for the 2 one-on-one try saving tackles in the second half - superb all round performance.
2Donald7Although both tries were scored in his corner Scott had a good game especially running the ball in - he is beginning to answer his doubters - me included.
4Senior7 Keith appears to be in a good seam of form - starting to attack the line with a bit more vigour and his defence has improved considerably in the last few weeks.
20Gibson6A bit inconsistent of late - as you would expect from a young player finding his feet at this level - the injury looked faily serious - hopefully Ashley will not out too long.
5Smith6Limited impact in the game - his defence wasn't at the same level as last week - however a big improvement on last year.
6McGuire6Nice assist for Webb's second try and a couple of nice kicks that apart pretty quiet until injury saw his departure.
7Burrow8Rob is becoming Ellis-like in his consistency - revels in the controlling role in the middle of the attacking line - must be a starter for GB against France.
10Peacock0Not possible to score on one minute - if the injury is a bad as suggested he will be a big miss for Leeds with Bradford, Wigan and Hull in the next three weeks.
9Diskin8Matt's running from dummy half was excellent - made serious in roads into the Catalan defence.
16Bailey7Frustrating - Ryan has so much size and talent yet he seems to coast through games - just doing enough. Pity he can't be injected with a bit of Thackray's desire
11Jones Buchanan8JJB is also putting together a series of consistently solid performances - his defence and ability to play long stretches in a game is a real boost to the side.
12Ellis9What can you say about mr consistent - if he doesn't win MOS it will be a miscarriage of justice.
13Sinfield9Magnificent tonight - his offload for Webb's first try was top draw - the two tries were just reward for a brilliant night's work.
15Thackray8I have said it before Jamie goes on the field and shows what playing in the first team means to him - his work rate is superb as his aggressive running with ball - a great addition to the squad.
8Leuluai7Whilst Kylie looks amazing when he running at the line he does appear to have serious stamina issues which will surely be exposed if Peacock is out for an extended period.
18Kirke6I'm all for giving youngsters a try but I am at loss to see what Ian brings to the party - a little one paced for me - perhaps Ablett deserves a go.
3Toopi7Not the impact of last week but still very solid - much prefer Clinton nearer the middle of the defence than out in the centres. Hopefully he can build on his seemingly new found confidence.
