David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Saints Home
Posted by southstander on April 23 2007 - 07:53:50

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about Saturdays game against the Saints;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb7One of Leeds' least impressive players - took his try well but looked vulnerable under the high ball.
2Donald7Unlucky not to get a brace - but overall a very solid performance.
20Gibson7Let his enthusiasm get the better of him on occasions but his effort and desire to keep his place should be supported by his coach .
4Senior8Massive defensive effort from Keith - put some big hits in and really stood up to be counted.
5Smith8Lee's second half was his best 40 minutes in a Leeds jersey - let's hope he can kick on from here.
6McGuire8His solo try and offload in the build up to Toopi's try were worth the admission money alone - genius at work.
7Burrow9Superb - ran the game, his combination with McGuire shows the potential of this partnership if the forwards could set the platform.
10Peacock9In a word - awesome, the news of Tony's departure has certainly had a positive effect on Jamie's form.
9Diskin7More lively than normal - some very strong runs from dummy half - wish he could get to the PTB more frequently though.
16Bailey7Watching Ryan he goes into almost tackle side on - he has no chance of winning the collision and forcing the defenders backwards - no wonder he seldom breaks the line.
11Jones Buchanan7Great offload for Donald's try was the high point of a very competent performance.
12Ellis9Is there a better defender in SL - if there is I haven't seen him - he is also the most consistent - his pride in his own performance is something to admire.
13Sinfield8Lead from the front - galvanised the best 40 minutes of rugby from his team in 2 years - the switch to hooker seems to suit him well.
8Leuluai7Continued on his good form from last week - took the ball up aggresively and defended as if he intended to hurt a few.
15Thackray9He must have been very tired at the end of the game - never stopped the whole time he was on the field - the defenders know somethings hit 'em when Jamie takes the ball up.
3Toopi9My MOM - he hits very hard in defence - he put some real bone-crunchers in today - the move to 13 certainly seems to have brought the best out of Clinton - hopefully he will get some confidence from the last two weeks.
18Kirke7At fault for the Wellens try - that apart played well despite limited game time.
