Fantastic First 'Fans' Barrie McDermott Testimonial Event
Posted by southstander on March 08 2005 - 08:37:22

Best Team

Last night saw the first of many 'fans' events for the Barrie McDermott Testimonial Season. A good crowd gathered in the 'Leeds Rugby Club' to be entertained by 'A Question of League', based loosley on long-running BBC sports quiz show 'A Question of Sport'.

Teams captained by Keith Senior, Willie Poching, Wayne McDonald, and Barrie himself, battled it out for the champions crown.

The captains drew out raffle tickets to pick their team mates and the semi-finals were drawn as Wayne v. Barrie, and Willie v.Keith.

After trailing early on, Barrie's team scraped a win over Big Wayne.

Next up, and Willie took to the stage to take on Keith in what was to be an epic battle. With Keith playing the 'pantomime bad guy' he adopted the tactic of harrassing the quizmaster.

It worked, Keith with a narrow win over Willie.

Barrie showed a couple of promotional videos, one from his early years and a second of his more recent exploits. Every time I looked at the big screen it appeared to be showing Barrie smacking Stuart Fielden, but perhaps that was just coincidence.

An Auction for some excellent items brought in by Barrie himself raised a staggering amount (thanks to everyone who bid and supported the auction). A separate raffle gave everyone a chance to win some equally fantastic prizes, for as little as a quid! Over a dozen people went home extremely happy with their acquisitions and prizes.

The final was to be an epic battle as Barrie took on his long-standing Rhinos and GB colleague Keith Senior. Early rounds were nailbitingly close, but in the end there could only be one victor, and that was Barrie (no fix - honest)!

Barrie's team triumphed in a close fought battle.

All that remained was to present the winners with their trophies and thank everyone who helped make the night the success it was. Hopefully we'll get a lot more fans in for the next event, to be held sometime in May, and support Barries' Testimonial season.

Barrie and his team, with the silverware.

After a great night the natives went home, happy with their auction purchases.
