Young Rhinos March On

Leeds attacking the Western Terrace and kicking into a slight breeze, but otherwise it was a bright sunny day for open attacking Rugby League.

And the Rhinos got off to the perfect start with only three minutes on the clock, the ball was moved to to left and Ryan Hall showed great strength to go down the South Stand touchline to get in at the corner. Tansey was of target with the conversion to leave the Rhinos 4 points in front.

After blowing to clear cut chances to score the Rhinos went further ahead after 9 minutes, the ball this time moved the the right a Carl Ablett's short pass enable Jason Hart to go over untouched from 20 metres out. Tansey missed the conversion to only double the Rhinos advantage.

Leeds were dominant as errors were not helping the Saints. After the ball came free in a tackle, Jordan Tansey picked the ball up and flung a huge pass to Mike Ratu who held off the challenges to touch down in the corner. Tansey this time added a difficult conversion to leave the Rhinos 14-0 up.

Again St Helens errors were giving a Leeds foothold deep in their half, and Leeds were in again. Carl Ablett showing great strength to carry four defenders over the line with him. There was a short delay but the referee awarded the try, Leeds then scored on their next set, Ben Jones-Bishop's break creating the opportunity and Tansey,s inside pass saw Jason Hart go over. Tansey converted both and Leeds were going at over a point a minute to lead 26-0.

Leeds were totally dominant and went in again after 29 minutes. Jordan Tansey's neat footwork creating the opening and Luke Gale was on hand to go over in the corner. Tansey was opn target to leave the Rhinos 32-0 up.

It was one way traffic as Leeds went in again, this time a neat chip from Luke Gale on the Saints 20 metre line was just collected by Ryan Hall who touched down right in the corner for his second try of the afternoon. Tansey was off target to leave the Rhinos 36-0 up. Saints had their first chance right on half time when Ryan Mirfield looked to get in at the corner but a great challenge from Danny Williams saved the day. Leeds though went into the break with their 36 point advantage.

Saints made a bright start to the second half and crossed the line when Dale Hull went over, but the try was disallowed because of an obstruction. But the visitors finally got on the board in the 52nd minute when Lee Cunliffe dived over from dummy half. Matty Smith missed the conversion to being the score to 36-4.

Leeds hit straight back, Michael Haley releasing fellow prop Luke Burgess and Luke Gale was on the inside to go over under the posts. He took the kicking duties over and added to extras to take the score to 42-4.

The Rhinos were now back on top and extended their lead in the 64th minute. Tom Burton receiving the ball on the 30 metre line and slicing through the Saints defence to go in at the corner. Gale was wide with the conversion to leave the score at 46-4.

Saints though were not giving up and crossed again in the 67th minute. Good work saw the ball moved left and Dave Hull got in ast the corner. Smith again was wide with the kick to leave the score at 46-8

Again it only spurred the Rhinos onto better things, after Saints turned the ball over deep in their own half, the ball was moved right and Danny Williams found the gap to cross the line and take Leeds through the 50 point barrier. Gale added the conversion to leave the score at 52-8 with 10 minutes to play.

Saints got a consolation score with the last play of the game when Gary Wheeler stepped his way through the defence to score under the posts. Matty Smith added the conversion to leave the Rhinos 52-14 winners.

Another solid team performance from the Rhinos as they kicked on from the performance last week at Warrington. It was a total team effort and it was difficult to pick someone out but the ISC Sponsored SouthStander.com man of the match went to Jodie Broughton.
