According to the launch blub, up to 10,000 of us can buy an advertising pixel on the MyTeamPixels.com (MTP) website for a tenner each. I think that they are being ambitious looking to sell 10,000 per club but all power to them. My simple mathematics allows me to determine that to fill a total grid it will have generated a nice £100,000 for MTP. There are twelve Superleague clubs, all potentially launching a similar scheme and all looking to fill their own 10,000 pixel grids.|
On this basis, if all SL clubs achieve their goal (highly unlikely) then MTP will generate a revenue of £1.2million. Very nice for next to no work!
But this is where it all falls down. The prizes on offer amount to just £20,000. According to the blurb there will be an award of £10,000 to the first club who sell all 10,000 pixels, and all pixel owners of the first club to complete their grid will be entered into a draw to win another £10,000.
If the Rhinos are the only side to complete their grid then the worse case scenario for MTP is that they shell out £20k on £100k income (20%). If all SL sides complete their grids then the cost is just £20k on £1.2million income (0.167%). Even more worrying is that if no clubs complete their grids, which is highly likely with a 10,000 pixel target, then it appears that MTP keep the whole blooming lot!
Perhaps it is just the wording of Phil's press announcement, but this looks like an incredibly bad deal for the Rhinos, and a shocker for the fans. If the Rhinos like the idea why not implement it themselves, offer better prizes and keep all of the profits?
Perhaps someone can explain it to me?
