David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Wigan Home
Posted by southstander on April 12 2007 - 07:47:08

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about tuesdays home game against Wigan Warriors;

1Webb6Looked uncertain/nervous tonight - he had a better second half than first. Didn't quite sparkle as he has done in previous games although he did manage to stay on the field for 80 minutes.
2Donald6Can hardly remember him getting the ball or having to defend too much - the much anticipated dual between him an Calders failed to materialise.
4Senior6 The aggressive he had looked all year in attack - however his defence which was pretty sound at Bradford evaporated for much of the game - as for the offload - less said sooness forgotten - it is time for Toopi to get a go at left centre.
3Toopi4Not his night TBH - everything that could go wrong did.
20Gibson6His least impressive performance of the year - although playing outside Toopi last night is hardly going to help a young player's confidence. Would like to see him get a start at right centre for the Warrington game
6McGuire5As bad as he was good against Bradford - totally outplayed by Barrett.
7Burrow8One of the best players on the Rhinos team - constantly probing and challenging the line - pity some of his team mates didn't rise to challenge.
10Peacock9Outstanding - his effort was monumental his best performance in a Leeds jersey. My MOM didn't deserve to be on a losing side.
9Diskin7Matt played the whole game - to be fair to him he played well - it is a pity he is a bit slow getting to the ruck - this needs some coaching input.
16Bailey7Not as good as the Bradford game but he still played a good standard throughout his spells - can he keep this level up?.
11Jones-Buchanan6His effort is 100% unfortunately his impact especially in attack is very limited - needs to develop more facets to his game if he is prosper under another coach.
12Ellis8Gareth must have broad shoulders given the responsibility he takes in the defensive structure - took his try very well - a fair reward for a big effort.
13Sinfield7Played well tonight superb pass for Ellis' try - I would like to see him be a bit more vocal and stamp his authority a bit more.
14Ali1Can't give a meaningful score for his 5 minutes - looks a serious injury - shame as he was looking a bit more lively in recent games.
15Thackray7Jamie's ball retention problems raised their heads once again - pity as he once again worked really hard - he has really knuckled down and makes positive contributions every week.
8Kylie5Now you can see why he has played so few games in the NRL his contribution is miniscule - looks a poor signing to me
18Kirke6I am all for young players getting a chance but they have to contribute - I am at a loss to understand what Ian contributed last night.
