David Bywaters Player Appraisal - 'Quins Home
Posted by southstander on March 25 2007 - 13:20:55

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are Davids thoughts about fridays home game against the Harlequins;

1Webb7A quality player who does the simple stuff with style. Never looked flustered, took his tries well - hope the injury isn't too serious.
2Donald6Went walkabout for one try, didn't bother to contest for another - but one stunning tackle on Smith to save a try that could have changed the game..
3Toopi7Solid - little opportunity to shine given his lack of ball in any kind of space. His consistency has improved as the weeks have gone on .
4Senior6Hardly broke into a sweat all night - typical of Keith's recent performances - fortunately for him Sykes seldom asked him any questions.
20Gibson7Very competent - did everything that was asked of him - lovely kick through for Webb's second try
6McGuire7Lucky for his first try, beautiful sidestep for his second - kicked well in the first half and attrociously in the second - although to be fair not that easy when you kicking from inside your own 30.
7Burrow6Strange choice of MOM - ran down too many blind alleys and the lack of ball to the centres was in no small part due to the number of times Rob was tackled ball in hand.
10Peacock6Is this the same guy from the Tri Nations? - Jamie appears to be going through the motions. It would interesting to compare he yards per carry with that of Thackray.
9Diskin6Even Shakespeare would find it tough eulogising about Matt - he misses tackles he didn't used to - he just looks very sluggish.
16Bailey6Does he make 5 yards on any carry? - how can a man mountain go down so easy? - on a positive note the defence does look more secure when he is on the field.
11Jones-Buchanan6If only his play was as good as his beard - he works his nuts off but hard work will only get you so far.
12Ellis8My MOM - Mr. consistent - churns out high quality performances every week - in the running for MOS and should be captain.
13Sinfield6Big improvement on last week - still looks out of place - kind of bit player now. Quite a come down from the prominence of yester-year.
14Lauitiiti5Is this the same ball-handling genius that first came to Leeds - he looks very low on confidence and has regressed to an average second row forward.
15Thackray8Very close to my MOM - another consistent high quality game - lights up the game - yesterday really needed it - when he takes the ball in - its the air of unpredictability of the collision at such speed..
18Kirke5Didn't really grasp the opportunity with both hands last night - very subdued.
23Tansey5Not a hooker and not on the field long enough to make the impact he did against Wakefield.
