David Bywaters Player Appraisal - 'Cats Away
Posted by southstander on March 18 2007 - 17:23:10

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Read more here....

Here are Davids thoughts about Fridays away game against the Wildcats;

23Tansey6His positional sense was woeful - he was all over the place - looked much more competent going forward where he linked in line and showed some good passing skills .
20Gibson5Very quiet most of the action happened on the opposite wing.
3Toopi6 Continued on from last week's excellent performance - competent rather than polished - as with Gibson most of the action was on the other side.
4Senior5Lazy, never looked for any work on either attack or defence - needs a kick up the backside - unconvincing so far this season.
2Donald6Scored one let two in!! - playing outside Senior can't be any fun for anyone - bet he can't wait for a switch to the other wing
6McGuire8MOM - 2 long passes for the first two tries, broke the line for Tansey's, scored the fourth himself and kicked the ball for Bailey's - the difference between the two sides - good job he was in the trench!!!.
7Burrow6Needs to rethink how he attacks the line - he is currently too predictable and his moves are becoming largely ineffectual.
16Bailey7Worked very hard - rewarded with a try - doesn't make the yards he perhaps should but the defence looks more solid when he is on the field.
9Diskin6Not sure what Diskin is contributing these days - he looks so slow and one paced - a real weakness in the team - GH has signed him up until 2010!!.
10Peacock6Distinctly average - does he really want to play for Leeds? his spat with Diskin revealed a lot about his current mood.
11JJB6I must be missing something - what does JJB bring to the team - a better beard? It didn't work at prop, it doesn't work at 11 - where next Tony? Give him a go at 9 if he has to start - it can't get worse.
12Ellis7At last some quality - pity he seems to have lost the ability to pass - Gareth creates more opportunities for the offload than any other Rhinos' forward.
13Sinfield5Well out of sorts today - a fact not lost on Smith - Sinfield spent more time on the bench in the second half than he did on the field - not setting the SL on fire at the moment.
14Ali5Yet another below par annonymous performance - he appears to have lost his confidence and with it his offload - quality coaching Smith.
15Thackray8Along with McGuire the best player on the field. He really attacks the line and his work rate is the highest of any Leeds prop - deserves a start.
24Kirke5Not enough game time to make much impact - needs a run in the side - no chance of dislodging JJB from the 17 - expect another season of frustration as Smith's illogical selection policy pans out through the season
8Leului6Runs with aggression - agreed - he just doesn't do it often enough - compare his work rate with that of Thackray - it would interesting to compare their metres gained per run.
