David Bywaters player appraisal - Giants Home
Posted by southstander on March 06 2007 - 17:31:31

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of season off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids' thoughts about Sundays game against the Giants;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb7Despite 2 bouts in the sin bin Brent looked very solid under the high ball and defused any trouble that came his way - bet he can't wait until the pitches improve.
2Donald9My MOM - superb effort in very tough conditions - contributed effectively to both offence and defence - one of his best performances for the Rhinos.
3Toopi7 Better than he has been - perhaps the weather made him feel at home - looked more at ease and took his try very well.
4Senior6Continued his understated start to the year - looks more like a forward these days - looked decidedly uncomfortable when he was substituted.
5Smith7Looked at ease in the awful conditions ran intelligently with the ball and tackled with determination.
6McGuire7Created the second try with a superb delayed pass and hand a big hand in the third - spent more time at dummy half as Diskin struggled to get to the PTB.
7Burrow7Gives the side vigour - always lively and dangerous - his work rate is incredible.
16Bailey7Could not be faulted for his effort - still cannot understand why a brick-toilet does not gain more yardage.
9Diskin6Given the injury he sustained against Hull top marks for playing - however his team mates need platform souls to take the majority of his passes.
10Peacock6Looks distinctly uninterested - perhaps the Tri Nations took a lot out of Jamie - he looks a pale imitation of captain courageous.
11Jones-Buchanan6The luckiest player in the Leeds squad to get a start - on yesterday's evidence he doesn't produce anything to justify his inclusion in the starting 13.
12Ellis7What can you say nobody in SL works harder defensively than Gareth - a real asset to the side - he would be really missed if he got injured.
13Sinfield7Nothing outstanding, nothing really bad - just solid.
14Lauiti'iti6Was he on the field - Ali is a big as any of the props yet he seldom punches his weight - conditions didn't suit his style but sometimes you have to grind it out - I would like to see Ali get stuck in more.
15Thackray8Superb today - he looks fantastic when he runs full pelt with the ball - really hits the line at pace - also put some very big hits on.
8Kylie7Good today - ran with intent, didn't have quite the impact of Thackray but he should be pleased with his efforts
23Tansey5Difficult to make much comment - he was only on the field for 8 minutes.
