David Bywaters Player Appraisal - Hull Home
Posted by Number 2 on February 19 2007 - 08:12:42

Davids MoM
by David Bywater

After a couple of seasons off, we've once again asked Davidbyw to cast his eye over the Rhinos performances of the weekend and pass numerical judgement on the players.

Bound to be controversial, and to spark debate on the message boards, we'll keep tabs over the season and see if Davids appraisal of player of the season tallies with your Man-of-the-match votes.

Here are Davids thoughts about Friday nights home opener against Hull FC;

No.NameScoreAnalysis
1Webb8Impressive - an almosy faultless display - this is the standard of overseas player the Rhinos and SL as whole should be signing.
2Donald5 Average– his defensive frailties were once again exposed for the Matt Sing try - runs laterally too much to be an effective attacking option.
3Toopi5 Usual handling errors but his enthusiasm in defence was a marked improvement on the previous week - jury still out.
4Senior6Looked better when moved in field into a more second row position - defended very well - his days as an out and out centre/match winner look a distant memory.
5Smith7Lucky to get his chance - Lee took it with both hands and had an excellent game - took his try very well too
6McGuire7Not his conditions but worked himself to standstill - his combination with Burrow is beginning to take shape both combining in Smith's and Sinfield's try - created the only clean break of the game.
7Burrow8All the Rhinos quality eminated from Rob - looks more settled in his new director role. Unlucky not to score from the McGuire break.
8Leuleui7Better than last week - his low centre of gravity suited the conditions - his effort was total - let's hope this is a sign of the future
9Diskin7Very good tackling - pity his distribution was better - slow and innacurate - how long have we been saying this?.
16Bailey8Looks like Ryan his got the bit between his teeth this season - his try a just reward for a very good performance.
11Jones-Buchanan 5What Jamie did last week to justify an eleveation only Smith knows - these conditions really didn't suit his game.
12Ellis9Continued on from last week - his work rate is incredible - how does he hit so hard - must be the best defender in SL.
13Sinfield7Another positive performance - good to see him get a try - seems more at ease out of te attacking spotlight.
14Lauiti'iti5Dropped to the bench after a lacklustre opener - little improvement this week - although conditions hardly suit ball handling forwards.
15Thackray7Did little wrong in the game - ran with vigour and defended with energy - hopefully this has seen his season turn around.
10Peacock9My MOM - massive contribution in both offence and defence - made a huge difference when he got on the field - welcome back
23Tansey7Showed his versatility - added energy and urgency to the dummy half role - lovely kick for the last try.
