The first event in the McDermott Testimonial year is 'A Question of League', to be held in the Leeds Rugby Club in the South Stand Car Park from 7:30 on the 7th March 2005. Entry will be strictly limited to the first 160, and entry is £3 on the door (sorry no concessions). This is to ensure that most people can get a seat and we don't exceed the fire limit for the function room.|
Barrie has recruited three 'team captains' to join himself in forming four teams, they are; Keith Senior, Willie Poching and Wayne McDonald. Other players are also likely to be in attendance. Entry will gain you a raffle ticket, which gives you entry into a draw, the mechanism by which the captains will select two team-mates from the audience.
The format of the quiz will follow that of long-running BBC TV sporst quiz 'A Question of Sport' but without the sycophancy to Rugby Union. Rather than being a general sports quiz, all the questions will be about rugby league.
There will be three games in all, two semi-finals and a final, and in-between there will be a great raffle (separate tickets from your entry tickets) and auction, both for items brought in by Barrie himself.
The evening is expected to last until around 10pm, and the players will be available to sign autographs and have their photos taken with fans. It promises to be an interesting and entertaining night, with trophies to the members of the winning team.
Everyone who comes along gets a chance to partner one of their heroes and test their rugby league knowledge.
Bring plenty of money for the raffle and auctions, and don't forget your £3 each entry. There is no age limit but parents should be aware that there is no guarantee that the evening will be swearing free!
