Rhinos To Repel Marauders
Posted by southstander on February 25 2005 - 14:43:16

Time to Tinker
Last years second bottom finishers are a totally different prospect with Frank Endacott at the helm. Last weeks 31-22 victory over the Bradford Bulls emphasises the fact that it will be a foolish man who understimates the 'Chemics'.

A traditional sunday afternoon start breaks with the Rhinos normal fridays, mainly because the Tykes are already at home on friday churning the pitch up!

The three o'clock kick-off should bring the crowds flocking in.

Endacott has spent the close season strengthening every area of the Vikings squad. They have now despatched ex-Rhinos such as Sheridan, Hay and Farrell, and recruited old Warriors in the form of O'Connor and Cassidy. Looking through their squad they have some dangerous players such as; Hughes, Craigie (who did all the damage against the Bulls), Frame and Stankevitch.

One player who Rhinos fans will genuinely be delighted to see is Gary Connolly, squeezing yet another season out of a knackered body. Gary was a fantastic servant to the Rhinos for a season, winning the Lance Todd Trophy for his efforts against the Bulls in 2003.

'Tinker Man' Smith is once again forced to dabble with his side. The injury to McGuire means that Scruton was drafted into the provisional twenty. Barrie McDermott has been brought back into the seventeen in place of McGuire, alongside Wayne McDonald who had a stinker whilst trying too hard last week against Saints. Liam Botham gets a place in the changing rooms as 18th man after a good run-out last week.

The Vikings have had a tough start to the season with Wigan, Bradford and now us. They have already got two points for their efforts last weekend and will be hoping to double up this week.

Three Vikings to keep an eye on;

Matty
Whittaker

Shane
Millard

Terence
O'Connor

The weather is forcast to be okay rain-wise, but get wrapped up 'cos it's going to be cold. cold, cold. The game is all ticket, but I understand that there are plenty left, so get yourself there for a great afternoons entertainment.

The bookies have given Widnes an amazing 24 points start, which appears tome most disrespectful of a side that turned the Bulls over last weekend. I'd expect them to get within that, although at 16/1 a twenty-four point margin may get my money.

Southstander.com Prediction
Rhinos 38 22 Vikings

I hope that the daylight wont effect the atmosphere, and that there willbe a good turnout to support the sunday afternoon start, it gives some strength to the argument that we should move games there more frequently. I expect the Rhinos to maintain their spot at the top of the league, but it could be quite a battle. Wakefield travel to Griffin Park to face the Broncos so it could all come down to points difference again this week.
