A Bit About You!
Posted by southstander on November 08 2006 - 10:59:11

Wow!

At the end of September I decided to take advantage of Google Analytics, a new invention from Google, and try an gather some overview information about the users of SouthStander.com and the Message Board. I knew that hits were fairly thanks to some rudimentary statistics that I could access, but Google Analytics tells a much fuller story.

What I have found out from a full month of monitoring in October (after Leeds season had ended) has astonished me, not only in terms of hits, but also in terms of where those hits come from.

I thought that I'd share some of my findings with you, they make for interesting reading.

In October 2006, the site and messageboard received 117,891 individual visitors (sessions) who made a total of 565,108 page impressions. Most of the hits came on weekdays with definite drop-offs in hits at weekends - seemingly most of you read SouthStander at work/college rather than at home!

Wile the message board received 71,510 individual visits, I was shocked to see that the main site got 46,381 visits. The average number of page impressions for message board visitors is far higher (7.00) than that of main site visitors (1.39).

The sites have had visitors from all over the world - proving that the Rhinos truly are a team with global appeal.

While the majority of hits are from within the UK there were hits from 46 countries including; the Maldives, China, Japan, Israel, Mexico, Turkey, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. There were 529 visitors from the USA and 495 from Australia, with another 144 from New Zealand. It does, however, appear that South America is a market that we still have to penetrate!

Lets look in more detail at the two sites;

Message Board

The Message Board unsurprisingly gets the majority of the hits with over half a million. The majority of hits are from West Yorkshire but Google registers 143 different geographical locations in the UK from which the Message Board is accessed. These are as far afield as; Fife, Antrim, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Slough.

The Message Board has users whose preferred languages (according to their computer set-ups) are Chinese, Spanish, French, German and Norwegian. There were a total of 3,123 unique visitors on the board, 58% of whom had already been on in the last nine days of September (when tracking was switched on), but 42% of whom had not.

Main Site

The main site had 9,141 unique visitors, much higher than the message board, most of whom stayed on the main site and didn't visit the vibrant discussion community. Visitor loyalty figures show that while some users visited once and never came back in the month, the majority of visitors returned between ten and 200 times in the month.

In addition to the preferred languages for message board users, the main site also had Turkish, Dutch and Polish visitors. Exotic locations for visitors included; The Falkland Islands, Cote D'Ivoire, Dominican Replublic and Croatia.

Of visitors landing through search engines, 61.47% had typed 'SouthStander', while the word 'SouthStander' also appeared in seven of the top ten searches resulting in a visitor arriving at the site. It appears that people see SouthStander as synonymous with Leeds Rhinos.

I hope that you have found this little statistical briefing as interesting as I have and I may look at doing it again in the future. In the meantime, if you want to advertise on the site (with all this exposure) then please get in touch and we'll see what we can do.
