U21's Smashed by Airlie Birds

Hull went in front on 10 minutes when Craig Hall crossed in the corner, then two minutes later Hall was in for his second try after field position had been gifted by Lee Smith putting the kick off out on the full. The home side then extended their lead in the 22nd minute when Danny Houghton put substitute Tom Lynch over by the posts. This time Kirk Dixon was successful with the conversion to put Hull 14-0 in front and that was how it stayed until half time.

The home side put the result beyond doubt in the opening 15 minutes of the second half after tries from Kirk Dixon and Liam Higgins with Craig Hall completing his hat-trick. Dixon converted all three to leave Leeds 32 points behind.

Leeds finally crossed the line in the 60th minute. Ben Kaye and Kyle Briggs combining to send Luke Burgess over for what turned out to be the Rhinos only score of the afternoon. To sum up Leeds say the conversion from Briggs hit the upright and bounced away.

Too many mistakes from the Rhinos cost them dearly on the day and it was errors that lead to the final two Hull tries. Firstly Shaun Wiseman crossing in the 73rd minute and Anthony Thackeray dummied his way thought the defensive line with 4 minutes left. Dixon converted both to leave Hull 44-4 winners and into a second consecutive Grand Final.

The SouthStander.com man of the match went to Luke Burgess.

Leeds have to pick themselves up now for the clash with St Helens, who were 45-6 winners over Warrington Wolves at Knowsley Road on Sunday morning. The Rhinos will be at home; a date is yet to be arranged for this fixture. Keep an eye on www.leedsrugby.com for details.
