Rhinos Sign Thackray Airlie
Posted by southstander on July 04 2006 - 16:45:25

Here in 2007

It has just been confirmed through the official Hull FC website that Jamie Thackray has been released at the end of 2006 and has signed a contract with the Rhinos for next season.

No news or confirmation has yet emerged from the Rhinos, but this is certainly a signing in the right direction as we recruit an bona fide prop forward to strengthen a pack which has looked a little lightweight through the whole of the Superleague XI season.

Read more here...

Ever present for his club in 2006, Thackray played thirty games and scored three tries in Superleague. Over the close season he figured three times for GB in the tri-nations, and this year he has played in fifteen out of nineteen Superleague games, failing to trouble the scorers.

In December 2005 he extended his contract at the KC Stadium to take him until the end of the 2007 season, but an unsettled homelife has forced Hull to reluctantly release him from his contract early to sign for the Rhinos. The former Castleford player almost quit the game a couple of years ago due to frustration at his own inconsistency, but over the last couple of years he has really turned it round, recognised with his international call up last autumn.

Standing 6' 2" and weighing in at just under 16 st, Thackray will add size to a pack which has looked lightweight since the loss of Danny Ward due to disciplinary problems prior to the start of the season.

We asked for a prop, and a prop is what we've got. Fingers crossed that Jamie will go from strength to strength in Blue & Amber.

I'm glad I'm not in his shoes for the remainder of the season though!
