Rhinos Blood Another Youngster
Posted by southstander on March 08 2006 - 16:11:55

Another Debut?

Sceptics will cite it as an example of the lack of strength in depth, while the forward thinking will use it as an illustration of the Rhinos continued investment in youth.

Todays announcement of the twenty man squad making the trip to Perpignan see Tony Smith sticking with his policy of 'blooding' the youngsters in what he considers to be the 'easy games'.

This time it is U21 half-back Jordan Tansey who joins Lees Smith, Ian Kirke, Danny Williams and Carl Ablett in getting his chance to make an impression.

The Rhinos hit the south of France to see if they can follow in Bradfords footsteps and record a big win over the newcomers. At all costs we must avoid the fate of Wigan Warriors, the first visitors to Stade Aime Giral in Superleague XI.

The Rhinos will still be without Mark O'Neill and Gareth Ellis, both recovering from operations and I'd guess that after tweaking a hamstring last weekend, Danny Williams is in the twenty to gain experience. Surprisingly JJB is once again not in the named twenty, and after a great defensive game against St. Helens, I wonder if he has an injury that we don't know about.

Out of the twenty travelling, only nine were in the side that made the unsuccessful trip last season which saw us lose to the Broncos. Those are; Mathers, Walker, Senior, McGuire, Burrow, Bailey, Lauiti'iti, Diskin and Poching. Sinfield didn't play last year as he was coming back from an injury.

The trip is starting to get hyped on the messageboard and I'm really looking forward to getting over there and having a great time.
