Rhinos Year in Review - September

As the Rhinos playing squad get ready to go to the Lake District for their pre-season training camp, our review of the 2005 season, heads into autumn as we hit September.

With confidence at a bit of a low, and having just missed out on the Challenge Cup in a heartbreaking last three minutes, the season was starting to look a littler more difficult than it had a month earlier.

Leeds Rhinos get their man as the capture of the newly appointed Great Britain captain Jamie Peacock is announced.....The Rhinos make it three losses in a row with a 24-22 defeat at Wigan. Lee Smith scores a wonder try as the Rhinos are denied a last gasp winner by a strage call from referee Laughton.....

Barge Arse Andrew Johns arrives at Warrington in order to take on the Rhinos in the next Super League game.....Under 21's player of the year nomination list announced, Chris Buttery, Ashley Gibson, Luke Stenchion, Jordan Tansey, Dave Tootill and Danny Williams go the the public vote.....Under 21's then go and lose their Major Semi Final against Widnes 30-20 at Headingley.....

Rhinos lose four on the spin for the first time since 2000 as Andrew Johns inspires the Wolves to 33-16 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.....Terry Newton cops big ban after game against Saints.....Under 21's make Grand Final after 42-16 victory over Castleford at Headingley, Ashley Gibson with a hat-trick to see the Rhinos home.....Meanwhile the first team stop the rot as they close regular season with a 34-26 victory over Wakefield, Leeds were well in front before nearly throwing it all away.....

Ali Lauitiiti, Kevin Sinfield, Mark Calderwood and Rob Burrow make the engage Super League Dream Teamm.....the Under 21's win their Grand Final against Widnes with a 42-12 victory at Headingley, Nick Scruton is named the official Man of the Match while Lee Smith takes home the prize.....

The Rhinos have the weekend off as Warrington and London are eliminated from the play-offs.....The Under 18's make the Preliminary final with a superb win away at Warrington.....the Rhinos qualify for Old Trafford with a 19-16 win at St Helens, the clubs first win away in the play-offs despite a late show from Jamie Lyon.
