Posted by southstander on December 23 2005 - 12:52:04

Our Boy

Get the Christmas excess out of your system as the road to 2006 starts on Monday as the Rhinos entertain the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the Tetley's Festive Challenge at Headingley.

Kick off is 11.30am.

We preview the game here.

Leeds have named six internationals in a strong looking line up on Monday. Danny McGuire plays after missing the Tri-Nations. Leeds play a full strength front row with Ryan Bailey, Matt Diskin and Danny Ward whilst three of the five new signings are in the team. Scott Donald, Nathan McAvoy and Shane Millard. Willie Poching and Jamie Jones-Buchanan are also selected despite playing for New Zealand and England respectively in the Autumn. Of the other new signings, Jamie Peacock is left out after his efforts in the Tri-Nations but Mark O'Neill is on the bench. All the other Rhinos players involved in the Tri-Nations have not yet returned to training but should feature sometime in the New Year. Richard Mathers is still recovering from the surgery he has in early November.

Brian McDermott has prepared the team for this fixture as Tony Smith is currently in Australia for family reasons but its not stopped him naming three of the Academy starlets in the starting line up.

The Rhinos line up is: 1. Lee Smith; 2. Scott Donald, 3. Ashley Gibson, 4. Nathan McAvoy, 5. Danny Williams; 6. Danny McGuire, 7. Jordan Tansey; 8. Ryan Bailey, 9. Matt Diskin, 10. Danny Ward, 11. Jamie Jones-Buchanan, 12. Willie Poching, 13. Shane Millard; 14. Peter Fox, 15. Carl Ablett, 16, Mark O'Neill, 17. Chris Feather, 18. Nick Scruton.

Wakefield coach Tony Smith has named a strong line up for this fixture and included youngsters Dale Ferguson and Steve Lewis. New signings Paul White and Jon Whittle have also been selected as the Wildcats look to repeat their Easter success at Headingley.

The Wildcats line up is (from): Mark Field, Colum Halpenny, Jon Whittle, Kevin King, Austin Buchanan, Sam Obst, Paul White, Darrell Griffin, David March, Duncan McGillvray, Jamie Field, Andrew Henderson, Michael Korkidas, Steve Lewis, Dale Ferguson, A.N.Other plus more to be named. Prediction
Rhinos 28 16 Wildcats

Leeds Rhinos are asking fans to ensure they turn up early for this fixture due to the redevelopment that is currently taking place at Headingley, capacity is restricted to 16,600 but there are now cash turnstiles available to ALL parts on the ground. The turnstiles and bars will open at 9.30am.

The weather for monday is partly cloudy but with a bit of sunshine around. What better excuse to get out and get a lung or two full of fresh air. Have a look at the new lads, and support the youngsters (including sponsored Ashley Gibson).
