U18's Take On Penrith
Posted by southstander on November 24 2005 - 16:14:17

Ash to Star
By the new SouthStander.com Academy reporter Edward Ingley

International Rugby League at Headingley tomorrow night as the Leeds Rhinos Under 18's entertain the Penrith Panthers at Headingley.

We preview that and other things here...

The teams last met two years ago when ex-Castleford Coach Dave Woods was in charge of the Mountain Men when they won 26-20 in a game marred by a massive brawl. Of the Rhinos team that night Ashley Gibson, Jordan Tansey and Danny Williams still qualify for the Rhinos and are in the starting line up. Its a strong looking Rhinos team with Under-21's regulars Luke Burgess, Jason Hart and Jamie I'Anson all in the starting line up. Michael Haley has not recovered from the broken arm he sustained in the 21's at Huddersfield in August and Joe Walsh is away on duty with the England Under 17's.

The Rhinos line up is 1. Michael Brown; 2. James Archibald, 3. Ashley Gibson, 4. Mike Ratu, 5. Danny Williams; 6. Jordan Tansey, 7. Ben Kaye; 8. Luke Burgess, 9. Jamie I'Anson, 10. Liam Halliday, 11. Jason Hart, 12. Steve Brooke, 13. Luke Gale. Subs: 14. Kyle Briggs, 15. Danny Allan, 16. Wayne Reittie, 17. Mark Watts, 18, Gareth Moore, 19. Liam Brown, 20. Tom Sheldrake.

The Panthers have played a couple of games already, comfortably disposing of a BARLA GB side 40-12 at the Arthur Miller Stadium last Wednesday night before defeating a St Helens side, without 7 England internationals, 19-12 at a fog bound Knowsley Road on Monday night.

The Panthers squad on Monday night was Jarrod Sammut, Junior Tia Kilife, Michael Jennings, Jarrod Searson, Joshua Drollett, Matthew Wade, Nathan Pill, Kyle Schuster, Masada Iosefa, Tim Grant, Victor Penitani, Shane Blackett, Michael Leeds, Joseph Paulo, Brett Smith, Brad McMullan, Guy Hodgins, Tom Pritchard, Shannon Wood, David Ruta.

The game kicks off at 7pm (please be aware of the kick off time) and entry is £2 (no concessions) and via the South Stand turnstiles only, but access is available to the North Stand for those who wish to sit down.

On another note, good luck to Joe Walsh who lines up for England Under-17's against the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) at Castleford on Friday night with a 7pm kick off. Ex-Leeds player Lee Crooks is the coach and he is assisted by Basil Richards, with Mike Rush the Team Manager. The squad have been in training since the end of September and had a four day training camp with the Royal Marines in Devon. The second game of the series is at Knowsley Road, St Helens next Wednesday night again a 7pm kick off.
