Young Rhinos Go South of the River
Posted by southstander on January 29 2005 - 10:23:25

Veal Leads the Charge
by Matthew Horton

In what is the last official run for the Rhinos before the Carnegie World Club Challenge, they head South of the River for the Lazanby Cup match against traditional local rivals Hunslet Hawks. The game is at South Leeds Stadium and kicks off at 3pm and is all ticket.

After tuesday nights line-up no-one would have expected this to have been the strongest Leeds team. Tony should now have his 20 in mind for the game on Friday night. Only Lee Liam Botham will back up from last Tuesday night's 18-6 win over the London Broncos. Anyone who features tomorrow may though be struggling to be in the mix for the big one on Friday night at Elland Road.

As expected, it will mainly be a Senior Academy side again but 14 of the lads had a run out in the combined London/Leeds side at Whitehaven last Wednesday night. A game which ended 38-22 to the hosts.

The Leeds team for sunday is; Iain Gordon, Danny Williams, Chris Buttery, Calvin Watson, Michael Brown, Scott Murrell, John Gallagher, Chris Feather, Jamie Iā€™Anson, Nick Scruton, Jason Golden, Liam Botham, Carl Ablett, Jordan Tansey, Chaz Iā€™Anson, Luke Burgess, Joe Walsh, Dave Toothill, Michael Ratu and Jason Hart.

Hunslet will be looking for revenge from last years defeat to a young Rhinos side and will look to include winter arrivals Anthony and Dave Gibbons, Matt Carbutt and Scott Walker. All four have worn the Blue and Amber in recent years, some more recently than others.

The game is all ticket and they are still available from the Rhinos Ticket Office on 0113 278 6181. Pre-match drinking will be in the Phoenix Bar at the ground. See you there!
