Fancy a Flutter?
Posted by southstander on August 16 2005 - 13:18:55

According to the bookies at SportingOdds.com, the season is already over and the Rhinos have collected all the silverware going.

They appear to be a bit more confident than most of us on SouthStander.com, regarding the Rhinos as odds-on favourites for all of the major awards.

Does is leave any scope for the Rhinos fans to have an end of season flutter?

The First prize up-for-grabs is the Challenge Cup, with the final being played in Cardiff on the 27th August. I'm sure most, if not all, of us are making the trip, but is there a bet that could recoup your petrol money? The Rhinos are 2/7 for the win, and to lift the trophy for the first time since 1999. So for every seventy quid bet you would only win £20 plus your stake. That would mean a bet of around £140 just to cover your petrol money! Hull, on the other hand are 11/4, which is an amazing price in a two horse race. The sensible bet here might be to back Hull and whatever way the final ends up you're OK. If Leeds win, fantastic and forget your bet, if they don't you've covered your costs!

Next up is the Monor Premiership, probably to be decided on the last weekend of the season. If we manage to win all of our remaining games (Bradford, Wigan, Warrington and Wakefield) to retain the 'hub-cap'. It's a two horse race with Saints, and the bookies have us as 3/10 with Saints being 5/2. There is no point in betting on the Rhinos again here, but a £20 bet on Saints would win you back the cost of your Grand Final ticket should we be disappointed at the end of the regular season.

Then the big one, the grand final, with eight side still in with a chance of making the play-offs. The top four with the bookies are; Hull (12/1), Bradford (8/1), Saints (2/1) and ourselves as odds-on favourites to retain the crown at 5/6. To be honest any bet here other than the Rhinos is futile, but a bet on Leeds will less than double your money.

There is perhaps a bit more scope for a decent bet in the 'top tryscorer' count. Leeds have the two favourites with Calderwood (currently on 25) at 13/8 and Senior (currently on 24) at 9/4. Fourth favourite is Rob Burrow at 8/1 but I think I might want better odds than that to back the little fella.

All in all there is very little to me made in backing the Rhinos. An accumulator on Minor Premiership/Challenge Cup/Grand Final of a tenner would only get you £20.64 back, a bit too much of a risk for my liking.

Place your bets at SportingOdds.com and RLFANS.COM gets a % of any losses you make.
