rhinoms Superleague XIX Previews - Round 23
Posted by southstander on July 30 2014 - 10:04:55

by rhinoms

Few could have predicted the outcome of last weeks fixtures with the Bulls beating the Warriors and the Wakefield upsetting the Wolves on their own midden.

Saints and the Rhinos have opened up a bit of breathing space at the top but whose to say that FC and the Bulls won't be the ones springing the surprises this weekend and opening the whole thing up again.

One thing is for sure, it is going to be a rollercoaster last five rounds before we hit the excitement of the play-offs.

We preview the action here.....

This week itís round twenty-three and the race for the top eight keeps throwing up surprise results as we witness the closest race for the play-offs since SL began!

Here are this weeks previews.

WARRIORS v. DEVILS

After a shocking defeat against the relegated Bulls the hosts welcome the big spending Devils to the Pie-Dome who still have very feint hopes for the top eight.

The visitors have a recent 3 wins from 4 record after the Rhinos ended their 3 game winning run in a hard fought contest last week so they will be pretty confident.

For the Devils Coach itís his first visit back to Wigan since departing his assistants role to take up the job as the Devils no1 so he should have some insight into their weaknessí.

The hosts will be fired up and they have a record of bouncing back from shock defeats with a vengeance so I think itís got to be a convincing home win.

DRAGONS v. WOLVES

After both sides suffered defeats they will be extra determined to get back to winning ways especially the visitors who have hit a blip at the wrong time with an impending CC semi on the horizon.

The hosts again reverted to their shocking away form last time out so they will hope to be back to their best on home turf having only lost twice there this season.

This should be a good game with too big packs and going at it and both sides having skilful try scorers out wide.

I think the visitors will be desperate for a lift in confidence before the huge cup game next week and that should just give them the edge in a thriller.

FC v. SAINTS

After throwing away a winning lead to only draw the fixtures donít get easier for the hosts when the injury hit league leaders head east.

After losing their 7 and General last week the visitors are missing their 1st choice 1 ,6 & 7 add in the likes of Amor & Wilkin they are missing some really big hitters.

For FC itís another season that has seen their play-off challenge never really get going and once again highlighted their lack of quality and depth.

It should be competitive given the visitors woes but I still think they should have enough to win and leave even bigger question marks over the hosts squad and coach.

RHINOS v. BULLS

Itís the last big west Yorkshire derby for at least a year as the relegated Bulls visit HQ.

The visitors fired a warning last week during their shock win over the pies that a team with no pressure and under-estimated remain a dangerous threat.

The hosts had a hard fought win at the big spending Devils last week but will be looking to improve and build more momentum and confidence before next weeks CC semi.

With jimmy Lowes now calling the shots the visitors will be fired up and ready to cause another upset should the Rhinos not be ready.

I think last weeks shock win for the Dulls and the CC game will help the hosts in that they will remain focussed throughout and make sure they get the job done.

TIGERS v. BRONCOS

The perfect fixture for the host to rest some of their big hitters before next weeks CC semi whilst also racking up the points in an unopposed training run.

WILDCATS v. GIANTS

The hosts pulled off another stunning win away at Wire last week to maintain their surprising late surge for a top eight spot.

The Giants did a number on the Dragons last week and will have their sights on the top four even though they have not hit the heights of 2013.

The hosts are dangerous at home especially when they get the opposition into a grind so the big Giants pack will need to get the fast ptbís the visitors thrive on.

A tough battle in prospect but I think the visitors hold the edge as they continue their attempts to break into the top four.

VIKINGS v. KR

Anything could happen in this game both teams have shown some great form at times and woeful efforts in others.

The plus side for the visitors will be the hosts CC semi-final next week so will they be 100% focussed and will they even select their best 17?

I think the Cup game is huge for the Vikings and as much as they will play it down they wonít be able to put all their efforts into this game both physically and mentally.

The Robins are a decent team when they get it right they just lack consistency but I think they will have too much this week and take advantage of the hosts having their minds elsewhere.
