rhinoms Superleague XIX Previews - Round 20
Posted by southstander on July 09 2014 - 06:43:22

by rhinoms

With just two points separating the top five sides the run in to the end of Superleague XIX promises to be the most exciting for years as the sides fight it our for the hub cap and jostle for play-off positions.

The great games just keep on coming with this weekends highlights being the Giants visit to Castleford, the Rhinos entertaining a bouyant KR and the Warriors visiting the south of France.

Whichever game you go to you should see a cracker (*Broncos v. Wolves excepted).

We preview the action here.....

This week its round 20 and the race amongst the top six couldnít be closer, whilst Wakey and Salford are hoping for a late charge for eighth here are this weeks previews.

WILDCATS v. VIKINGS

The hosts have found the winning formula since rookie Coach Webster took the helm and they dug out a hard fought but deserved win against the Rhinos last week to add to their confidence and momentum.

The visitors were blown away last week by a rampant Tigers team who gave them a harsh lesson in fast attacking RL despite a spirited effort which almost brought them level at one point early in the 2nd half.

The hosts will be confident at home and the Vikings arrive bruised and battered so although close I think its got another home win written all over it.

TIGERS v. GIANTS

After regaining some of their early season attacking flair the hosts put on a show when battering the Vikings last week whilst the visitors suffered a shock hiding against the Locke inspired 12 man Devils.

The Giants also travel wounded without Mcbrough & Grix which could prove costly.

2 big packs will collide but without their talisman and Skipper the visitors will have to adjust whilst also lacking depth at FB highlighted by Cudjoes error ridden effort their last week.

This should be a good game but home advantage and the confidence returning for Powells Tigers I think they have the edge especially with the visitors missing their creative go to player.

RHINOS v. KR

Last week for the Blue Ďní Amber was just another case of De Ja Vu as they repeated the disjointed error ridden performance weíve seen too often over the last 6 weeks and deservedly lost out against a workman like wakey.

The visitors will be very confident after they destroyed the STís and boosted care taker Coach Chesters chances of landing the job F/T.

With some key players hopefully to return the hosts should be a tougher proposition but saying that they look a shadow of the team that looked so sharp and defensively tough during the 1st 14 weeks.

HKR have a reasonable recent record at Headingley and won last year so they wonít be daunted by this trip but for the hosts itís a must win to regain confidence and hopefully some winning momentum.

A tough game in prospect but its time for the home side to up the ante and get a winning run started. Rhinos by 10.

SAINTS v. BULLS

After a humiliating defeat last week expect the league leaders to come out all guns blazing which will spell trouble for the visitors.

The Bulls had a case of so near yet so far as they lost out late by 2 points but can take heart form an improved performance under their new boss.

However they are nowhere near top 8 material let alone good enough to compete against the team top of the league despite their recent heavy loss.

It may not be an all out hammering but itís a comfortable home win.

DRAGONS v. WARRIORS

This should be a cracker the hosts are in good form at home having still only lost one game whereas the visitors are looking to put pressure on the top 2 and will arrive fresh after last weeks cruise down south.

As good as the Dragons have been though the visitors will be fired up and determined to up the gears again and have that bit of extra quality to go to difficult grounds and grind out the win.

It should be a good old fashioned blood and thunder encounter with both packs ripping in but the visitors hold the edge for me.

DEVILS v. FC

After stunning the SL and more importantly the Giants last week with a dominant win the hosts will look to build momentum as they launch a late bid for 8th.

The B+Wís are average but capable on their day of some decent stuff without tearing up trees so will target this game as a chance to build their own late bid for 8th with a much needed win.

Given the hosts early season cup win at the Cod dome the visitors will also have revenge in mind which adds spice to the mix.

It should be a reasonable game but having Locke and the extra confidence of that huge away win will see the Devils take the spoils and leave FC looking at another loss.

WOLVES v. BRONCOS

The form team against the bottom team without a win all season so itís an unopposed training run for the hosts and a chance to rest some key players.
