rhinoms Superleague XIX Previews - Round 17
Posted by southstander on June 18 2014 - 06:50:05

by rhinoms

This is developing into a belting Superleague season with the chase for the Minor Premiership and the top eight spots both still wide open.

Down the bottom it looks like London and Bradford will need a superhuman effort to avoid the drop and neither of them are showing any aptitude for the great escape.

Round seventeen trows up a few one-sided looking fixtures, but this has been the season of surprises.

We preview the action here.....

This week we hit the round seventeen stage of the season and the race for the top 8 is getting tighter not least for the top 4 slots plus we also have the Pies also taking on the Vikings in mid-week for their game in hand due to early season WCC commitments.

Here are this weeks previews.

Wednesday - WARRIORS v. VIKINGS

After they exacted revenge for their CC loss last week the hosts will be extremely confident when the battered Vikings visit.

Although much improved in 2014 the Vikings were well and truly destroyed at home last week when an average FC team put 50pts on them.

It may be closer than many think if the Vikings can bounce back but they donít have enough firepower to get the points.

BULLS v. KR

After losing their ridiculous points appeal the home sides new owner decided that Fannys time as Coach was up on the back of another crushing defeat.

The visitors were also comprehensively dismantled by the in form Wire last week so they will arrive determined to bounce back and see the despondent hosts as the perfect opposition to regain winning form against.

With both teams desperate for different reasons it could be an entertaining game but I donít see anything but more pain for the home faithful.

DRAGONS v. FC

After destroying the STís last week the home side will be supremely confident of another home win when Radfords B+Wís visit.

The Cod Army will travel with more confidence after destroying the woeful Dulls last week but they face a much better opponent this time.

Both sides will see this a tough fixture but I think home advantage is the key factor with the Dragons literally breathing fire on all who have visited recently.

The visitors will get stuck in and make it competitive but the hosts have too much power and skill.

GIANTS v. BRONCOS

After Mono-Brow and co used their ďget out of jail freeĒ card when hanging on for win at HQ last week this is the perfect fixture to rotate their squad and put points on the board.

The bottom side came so close last week to securing their first win but fell short and have no chance of getting it this week.

An unopposed training run for the Giants.

SAINTS v. TIGERS

The home side will be angry and determined to bounce back after last weeks nilling in France whereas the visitors were on the end of a hiding themselves at the Pie-Dome.

Injuries are building up for the STís but they are still capable of beating the high flying Tigers and itís a shame Sky havenít picked this one for their live coverage.

Powells Tigers will definitely be better than last week but last weeks results will make it even harder than it already was for them to get the win.

A tough quality game but the hosts just have the edge.

WILDCATS v. WARRIORS

The hosts can take some comfort in the fact that the visitors will arrive having played on Wednesday night which should make them a bit ďgame wearyĒ.

Having said that the Pies squad is deep enough and have plenty of confidence to not let 3 games in a week have a major effect.

A morale boosting win and fresh coaching ideas will lift the Puddy Catsí spirits but they donít have enough quality or consistency to win this one.

WOLVES v. DEVILS

The hosts are on fire at the moment scoring trys for fun and looking strong defensively to boot. The visitors arrive on the back of a big win against the pathetic Bulls and already they are talking top 8 despite how average theyíve been this year.

The Devils can score points but are weak defensively and severely lack enough depth and team spirit when put under serious pressure.

It may be competitive for an hour but the hosts are too strong across the park.

VIKINGS v. RHINOS

The Blue Ďní Amber head west after their first home loss of the year despite an improved performance.

The hosts are back on home turf after a mid-week game and a humiliating home defeat last week.

The visitors should welcome back 1 or 2 absentees and although still far from firing on all cylinders they will see this as a fixture they can return to winning ways in.

The Vikings are stuttering and I expect another defeat mid-week add in the fact that they donít have the deepest of squads either I can only see another home loss.

A morale boosting return to winning ways for the visiting Rhinos.
