rhinoms Superleague XIX Previews - Round 14
Posted by southstander on May 21 2014 - 07:59:41

by rhinoms

It's the mid-way point in the 2014 season and it only seems like yesterday that we were eagerly awaiting round one.

The only certainty of Superleague XIX is the impending relegation of the London Broncos but with half a dozen clubs still in contention for the league leaders shield, and twelve clubs in with a chance of a top eight spot.

It promises to be an exciting back end to the regular season.

We preview the action here.....

After all the fanfare of the magic weekend we are back into the weekly grind of SL this week as we enter the second half of the season.

Here are this weeks previews.

After another defeat the big spending Devils welcome the Pie eaters who arrive on the back of a hard fought win against the Rhinos.

As we all know the hosts still lack cohesion and quality despite their owner talking a good team at the beginning of the year.

The visitors will be confident and if theyíve recovered from their post-game celebrations and open top bus parade for getting 2 points it should be a straight forward win.

Although the visitors are missing plenty of players (surprised SKY never mentioned it) they have more than enough depth and quality to get the win.

For the hosts the best they can hope for is keeping the score respectable despite the insane rants of their owner.

After a bruising defeat the League Leaders return home to face the fast fading B+W half of Cods vile.

After a tough run of fixtures expect 1 or 2 changes to the hosts 17 but that shouldnít affect the outcome as they look to bounce back to winning ways.

The visitors look like they could struggle to make the top 8 and I wouldnít be surprised to see another change of coach before the season is out.

It should be a decent game but the class of the Leeds back line and a Pack with a point to prove should be far too strong for the disjointed downtrodden visitors.

After a convincing loss the early season pace setters are looking lost and rudder less.

The Giants are building consistency and confidence as they look to maintain their top 4 challenge whilst Iím sure the CC defeat will still be fresh in their minds.

Itís a case of de ja vu for the plastic scousers as once again a Nathan Brown team starts strong but loses its way when the season hits the half way mark.

This should be the game of the round with both sides having a point to prove for different reasons.

Some quality RL can be expected but I donít think STís can sort all their problems out in time for this one as the Giants get sweet revenge.

The awful mob from Odslum travel to the south of France after another pasting added to their 2014 woes.

The hosts are a completely different team at home who show pace power and skill and will see this as a good chance to get more points on the board.

No doubts the visitors will have a dig for an hour or so but they are bereft of quality and lack cohesion.

This is another fixture where one of the teams involved will see keeping the score respectable as a positive I also think this could be the last time we see Francis Cummings as Dulls head coach.

Another entertaining game in prospect when the Vikings visit the high flying Tigers.

Both sides secured good wins at the Etihad last week with the hosts crushing their near neighbours the wildcats whereas the Vikings did a job on the Devils.

It should be an end to end game as both teams are creative and like to play fast attacking RL however the hosts hold the edge defensively and up front.

It will be pretty close but I think Powells tigers just have too much.

After a sweet victory in the Cod wars the Robins welcome the improving but still lacking relegation fodder from down south.

A good chance for the hosts to rack up the points and rest some of their squad whereas the Nags will look to keep improving and keep the score against down.

After getting destroyed by the Tigers the wounded host welcome the resurgent Wire who look confident and serious challengers again after a convincing win against Saints.

The hosts have shown over the years they are capable of winning games they are written off in and prove the doubters wrong.

However their squad lacks the quality and toughness to beat serious top 5/6 contenders and that will prove to be the case here.

Another painful weekend in store for the Wakey faithful as Wire continue their climb up the SL.
